Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

1996 Grand Cherokee

Oil pressure Gauge drops to zero at an idle, go back up when RPM goes up. Check Guages light goes on w/ ding dong sound. Problem prominent when A/C is on but, also can happen when A/C is not on.

Also, experiencing stalling problem ... mechanic suggested replacing ECM w/c I haven't as yet. Cleaned stock ECM w/ electric spray cleaner, check connectors and fuses and now in the process of stall testing.

With the 2 problems stated what's the best approach shall i emply to resolve issues? thanks.

Try replacing the oil pressure sending unit. I had similar problem and the sending unit was faulty and only about $25 at AutoZone.

I replaced the OPsending unit. It was leaking badly. The gauge still doesn't work, though. I think oil may have "drowned" the contacts.Car still has oil pressure and runs fine, any thoughts??

Check the connector on the oil pressure sensor they can become loose and when you have you ac on the vibrations can cause intermittent contact also put a mechanical oil pressure Gage on the truck and if it checks out replace the sender, as for the stalling problem try replacing the crank position sensor if it does it under certain conditions such as hot or cold or dose this occur while braking? the crank sensor is located on the bell housing and are common failures please rate and good luck -jeff
