1998 Buick Century Starter Problems

I have a 1998 Buick Century Custom with a 3.1 litre engine. I turned the car off when I got home from an errand and went to start the engine again because I forgot something and all I got were clicks out of the starter. I bought a good used starter from a reputable used parts dealer and I can't even get a click out of this new starter. I've triple checked all the wires and they are all OK. I just can't figure out why it is having this problem. I have all the dash and head lights, but can't get anything out of the starter now at all. I put a battery charger on it and it's pulling 4 volts. I can't get the electric windows to work but the radio and cassette and headlights work fine. What could be causing this problem?

I thought I had a bad battery because i just needed a jump. when it didnt work, and just got clicks, i was told i need a new starter solenoid. in the process of waiting to get a diagnostic test done to see what's going on. anyone know the cost of the part(s) and labor?

Do you have 12volts to the small wire on the starter while you are trying to crank or in the start position? and is there a constant 12 volts to the big red wire on the starter? you may have a bad ignition switch or starter relay first answer the above questions and i will help you further -jeff

-You mean. crank 3-4 times before it fire...?
If so. Possibly dirty injector, low fuel pressure.
-Or you mean you turn the key 3-4 time before the starter crank...?
If so. Solenoid has dirty contact or bad connector.

1990 Buick Century Custom 4-Dr Sedan 3300 V6. New motor, fuel pump, fuel filter, alternator and starter. Turns over, though it won't fire.

Check your fuel pressure at the schraeder valve that is on the fuel rail. If you have fuel pressure, check for spark. If no spark, then ignition diagnosis is needed. If no fuel pressure, check for diconnected, or pinched wires, as this can easily happen during an engine swap.

How to remove and replace a starter on a 1995 Buick Century Custom, with a 3.1 Liter, V6 engine.

remove the negative battery cable, if you lie down in front of the car, you will see the starter on the front of the engine, has a couple of 15mm bolts holding it in. unplug it if its got a plug, and take the wire off... probably a 10mm. when you install the new one dont let the stud turn when you put the wire back on with the 10mm, if it turns you may as well go get another starter, just a little move wont hurt nothing, but if you move it far, save yourself some time and get another...bolt back in, plug wire in, reconnect battery cable, and your on your way.

After replacing the battery on my 1998 Buick Century the car will not crank. I can hear the fuel pump energizing but no attempt to crank. My question is this Is there anyway to eliminate some of the...

I would double check the battery connections make sure they are tight enough. It takes alot more amperage to turn over a starter then to operate a fuel pump if the connection is poor it can cause this.

WHAT BRAND MOTOR OIL IS THE BEST FOR 1998 BUICK CENTURY CUSTOM

There really is no better brand of oil, If you change your oil regularly, you will never have to worry about your engine. If you don't, it doesn't matter if you spend $5000 a qt, it won't do a bit of good, so pick a brand, select a weight in your temperature range, 10/40 is pretty common, maybe 10/30 up north, and get in the habit of changing it every 4,000 miles. I use walmart oil, it is cheaper, but I go through it fast around here, 3 cars, 2 bikes, lawn mowers. Hope this helps.

I have a 1998 buick century limtied

I would suggest buying a Haynes/Chilton book for both models, they may even be one in the same if the years are close enough. Look up the schematics for both and compare the differences circuit by circuit. There may be some slight differences with connection fittings, but thoroughly review the schematic diagrams first.
