Hi there if you checked the pressure at the fuel rail then the fuel filter is clogged but if checked it before the fuel filter than it is the fuel pump

How difficult is it to replace the timing belt on a 1998 chevy 1500 4.3 liter engine? my pickup just quit on me one morning, thought it might be out of fuel, put plenty in, sounds like the pump is...

It would be the most difficult thing in the world to replace a timing belt on a 4.3L Vortec engine...It is a CHAIN driven engine. It is not real likely that there is a problem with the timing chain...unless the engine does not know what an oil change is...Not real common on that engine. What is common is failed fuel pumps at around 110,000 miles. If the fuel pump has not been changed already, that is your most likely culprit. "Hearing" the fuel pump is not good enough. You must check FUEL PRESSURE at the connector on the fuel rail. - OR you could use a small amount of starting fluid to see if the engine comes to life for a second - a good indication that it is not getting any fuel. A good place to spray some starting fluid is through the hole in the intake snorkel where the PCV breather tube goes in. (The plastic tube that runs down to the valve cover) Just pull the breather tube out of the snorkel, spray some starting fluid in and crank it up. If the engine goes VR-R-O-O-O-O-O-M! replace the fuel pump. Don't use too much, or your snorkel and air cleaner box can explode...If you can get someone to help you it would be even better...Have someone start cranking the engine just before you spray some fluid in the hole - that way, all the fluid will move directly into the combustion chambers without getting a chance to go the wrong way and flood the air cleaner box. Trust me...The elements in the Mass Airflow Sensor can get hot enough to ignite the starting fluid, so this can be a not-so-safe method of diagnosis. I know mechanics that do this all the time without any problems. I also have seen an air cleaner housing explode in a man's face...not pretty.

A timing chain that has "jumped time" can easily be diagnosed with a scanner that can read engine data. All you have to do is look at the CAM/CRANK SYNC will say either "YES" or "NO" if it says YES when you crank the engine, the problem is not related to the timing chain.
The only sensors that are likely to make it just up and die on you would be the Crankshaft Position Sensor or the Mass Airflow Sensor. If it has spark, it is definitely NOT the Crankshaft Position Sensor. If it is the Mass Airflow Sensor causing the problem, it should start and run if you unplug the sensor. It will idle rough and won't have any power, but it WILL run without it.

I have a 95 LHS engine turns over and tries to start but wont start

The first thing is to check it for spark and fuel, try spraying starting fluid spray into the throtlebody and see if it runs for a few seconds, if it does then we know its getting spark and not fuel, this may be caused by a bad fuel pump, another trick is to have someone try to start it while you beat on the bottom of the gas tank with a rubber hammer , this will shake the pump and sometimes make a connection to start, if this works then pump is bad replace it, good luck, hope this is helpful.

2000 s-10 all of the sudden quit running while driving. truck will crank.

If the engine turns over faster than usual then you probably have a broken timing chain. You might also want to check to see if the fuel pump is working. Spray some starter fluid in the intake and see if it starts. If it does, then you know you have a fuel issue. If not, then you either have a spark issue, PCM power issue, or a broken timing chain.

Signs of a Bad Fuel Pressure Regulator
the vehicle will not start, if a bad regulator. Usually, this is a problem that is encountered in the morning when you start your vehicle. Many a times, the engine starts, but stalls shortly after starting. check the fuse and relay for pump. also remove line to fuel pressure regulator and if fuel in line, replace fuel pressure regulator. check for spark and also the timing belt. its one sign of not starting. if car runs fine on spray, I would not say its the timing belt or chain.

An engine needs 3 things to run fuel, spark, and air, but they must occur at the proper time, that being said, buy, or borrow a noid light. This is a light that you can plug into the injector to see if it is getting the pulse from the computer, do not use a test light, you will fry the computer for sure. If the injector pulse is there you have to check the timing to be sure the timing chain has not jumped. Bring the number one cylinder up on top dead center of the compression stroke, then pull the distributor cap off and make sure the rotor is pointing at the place on the cap where the number one wire is hooked on. If it is the timing is good, if not it is possible that the timing chain has jumped or someone has installed the spark plug wires incorrectly.

It sounds like the fuel pump is not working. Perhaps the install was not completed correctly. Things to check, fuel pump relay, wiring, voltage to the pump.
The priming happens as soon as you put the key in and turn it to "acc" (you may hear a humming sound). Then once you turn it to "start" the injectors and spark plugs start firing.
Another possibility is that the fuel filter was installed backwards.

Engine is turning over getting spark but will not run checked the presure release for the fuel line and nothing will come out

Looks like your problem is fuel related. A quick test is to spray starting fluid in it . If it starts and goes dead it is fuel related. Check your fuel pump relay and fuse.If it checks out good replace the fuel pump
