You may need the keys reprogrammed by the dealer. i had a problem where the key losted its code and the car would not start. its a antitheft safty device which won't let the car start.

1997 jetta temperature light blinks and steering is hard

So you have the 2.0 lt, if it has A/C then there are 2 belts. 1 belt runs the alternator and A/C and the other belt runs the water pump and power steering. I would say that you have an issue with the water pump belt. Check the tension and the condition of the belt and the pulleys and repair as necessary. Hope this helps.

1.8 turbo 2001 jetta -- car turns over, serpentine belt rotates but the timing belt does not. timing belt, water pump, not sure what is going on

Here's a link on how to replace the timing chain. The only thing i can think of is to make sure the chain is properly tensioned and sitting right on the crank pulley since that's what drives it. Since it's not turning make sure your water pump is not seized, turn it by hand to make sure it's ok and also re-check the timing marks on your camshaft pulley. Be careful you don't want to bend any valves so make sure the camshaft timing marks are correct and make sure the number one cylinder is all the way up on the compression stroke. Anyways, here's a link with detailed instructions. Just copy and paste

You are the bestt person to identtify the source of the sound before we can go about a long check list. so open up the bonnet if you think it is from the engine side. Look for possible noise from
1. water pump
2. Alternator bearings
3. Idler pulley
4.AC clutch pulley
5. Belts..Tip Is: try to pour some water over the belt to confirm
6. main crank pulley

Why does my paid off 2000 VW Jetta GLS make a high pitch buzzy grinding sound. Is it the alternator ,transmission,or timing Belts. What do I do and how mauch can it run me. Am I still covered with the

The trick is to take off the belt and spin the different things and see if any of them make the noise you hear.
Water pump, alternator, power steering, air pump, belt tensioner pulley. You could also briefly (30 seconds) run the engine without the belt and see if it still makes the noise.
