Re: how do i change the fuel pump?
There are 2 straps that hold the tank in place that you have toremove...only take the two back ones down not all 4 you will have to unhook the feeder tube to the tank and the plug that plugs onto the top of the fuel filter.the tank should slide down then but you have to put a jack under the tank to keep it from falling

Fuel filter may be plugged. Pumping up a fuel tank will cause damage to the fuel pump diaphragm , the gas tank itself. Priming the carb is done by pouring gasoline in the vent hole of the float chamber.
you will have to raise the rear of the car then undo the fuel lines, electrical wires, vent line and the gas tank straps supporting the tank you will have to support the tank before undoing the straps, then lower the tank until you can remove the fuel tank lock ring and remove the fuel pump assembly, note that some had and extra fuel line connected to the pump assembly inside the tank and you will have to pull the pump assembly so far until you can disconnect this line. assembly in reverse order. also replace the fuel filter if its been a while.
TAKE THE FUEL LINE OFF THE ENGINE SIDE OF THE PUMP WORK FROM THIS POINT BACK TO THE TANK.PRIME THE LINE FROM THE PUMP TO THE TANK WITH FUEL.RECONNECT FUEL LINE BACK TO THE PUMP FROM TANK. HOLD BACK PRESSURE WITH YOUR THUMB OVER THE PUMP ENGINE SIDE .TURN THE PUMP ON .IF IT DOES NOT PRESSURE UP THE LINE IS CLOGED FROM THIS POINT TO THE TANK.THE FLOAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FLOW OF FUEL FROM THE TANK! AFTER YOU GET FUEL TO THE PUMP FROM THE TANK REPEAT THE PROCESS TO THE CARBURATOR SIMPLE PROCESS OF ELIMANATION! FUEL IN TANK>PUMP>CARBURATOR>ENGINE > MOTER RUNS
ok well it looks like i have found a used gas tank that is about 300$ cheaper then buying new off rock auto. Click here to see gastank. generally you would also want to change the fuel pump with a new one. That way you dont put it in and a week later the fuel pump dies. If you need further assistance or any advice on how to do this please feel free to let me know and i will be glad to assist you.
It is.....in the gastank! There is fuel filter located just out side the tank on from rail passenger side. Suggest maybe check/change that FIRST before removing the gastank (depending what's your trouble).
If it is fuel injected with an electronic fuel pump you can try replacing the fuel pump. This sounds like a fuel pump issue where the pump works when it is cold but once it warms up it fails or there is a leak in one of your fuel lines. You should have a mechanic tackle this problem.
Unfortunately not. most fuel pumps are located inside the tank and the fuel filters are located along the frame work of the vehicle, running in line with the fuel lines. There are some exceptions. Some cars have fuel pump locations that will allow you to access them without dropping the tank but, this model will require you to at least lower the tank for complete access.
buy an aftermarket electric pump from Summit Racing and mount it on the frame rail right near the filter....do not waste time dropping gastanks and paying for ridiculous gm type in the tank pumps, the in the tank pump is a giant fock u to the public from the automakers.....remember the little mechanical cam driven two bolt cuteys? 15 bucks and 15 minutes and you were done.... thanks big three!
YOU will need the car on a hoist, doing it on the ground is almost impossiable, disconnect the filler neck at top, remove the straps, lower tank slow and disconnect wiring and fuel hoses, you need a special tool to remove the gas line retainer clips.
