I have a 2003 malibu ls 3. If It became hard to start out of the blue then make sure you don't have a cracked spark plug. If you have not replaced them in two years then do so now. It may very likely be the problem and can lead to many worse problems. Check the spark plug wires and look for any deposits, corrosion or loose connections.

Have you checked the rate of fuel flow from your fuel pump to see if the issue is fuel delivery?

Can you keep the vehicle running by working the gas/throttle pedal?
If you can, then it's not a fuel pump issue, but may be an idle control valve issue.

Does a 2000 chevy malibu have a fuel reset button and where? it just died while at a stop sign, so we thought it was out of gas. we put gas in and it still will not start.

Hello mellissa, the 2000 malibu does not have a fuel reset switch. Check the fuel pump relay in the fuse box under the hood. Check for fuel pressure. You should be able to hear the fuel pump come on for a few seconds when you turn the key to the run position....Your fuel pump might have failed.
I hope this helps.

sounds like a fuel regulator or fule pump. your going to have to test the fuel pressure the port to hook a pressure tester is on the fuel rail. anything below 35-40psi you will need  to prob replace regulator
