First get the fuel pressure checked, this will confirm the problem. --------- If the pressure checked low that means problem is with faulty pump and clogged fuel filter. -------- But if pressure checked ok, then get the MAF sensor cleaned, if that is not helping the it has to be replaced.------- Also get the throttle body and IAC valve cleaned.------ The idle air control valve is also located at throttle body.Clean both throttle body and IAC valve with throttle cleaner.-=========== click this link below to get more help, regarding vehicle lags when accelerating :------- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/vehicle-lags-when-accelerating.html ----------------- And for transmission will not shift down, click this link below:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/transmission-will-not-shift-down.html ------------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Momentarily pulls left when accelerating (feels drifty/floaty like being pushed sideways by a strong breeze) then pulls right(same thing) when letting off accelerator. No play/slop in steering.

If you are driving any front wheel drive vehicle, what you are feeling is called torque steer....sometimes it's from poor design but it can also be caused by a broken engine or transmission mount allowing the engine/trans assembly to shift under load or when removing load.
You can do a quick test by holding the brake down firmly and in gear, press down on the gas. have someone watch (from the side of the car ONLY) and see if the engine shifts. Do in both drive and reverse.
Be very careful when doing this that the car does not get away from you and do not hold power for more than about fifteen seconds at a time or it can overheat the transmission. This only works in automatic trans cars... for stickshift ones you need to move the engine with a long pry bar.

Hard shifting, revving of the engine, trouble

Your going to need a scanner hooked up to look at data. There is no other way without guessing.

Transmission won't shift fron 1st, 2nd or 3rd correctly!

Sorry to inform you that it sounds like your transmission needs servicing.
Check the fluid levels and replenish if level is down.
If after doing this, the car still wont shift properly or smoothly,,then you will have to take the car into a transmission mechanic.
