Bought an x type 13 months ago with 35k and full service history. Graet car to drive but constant faults, engine lights, wheel bearings, heater. Has depreciated by 9k euro in 13 months. First and last Jag. Drove all Toyotas before this and not one single issue and good resale value.

I do in part agree with Ronnieh49 in that the parts for this car are very expensive however, If you can find an well maintained example you will hopefully limit the amount you spend on it in the future. Going back to Ronnieh's comments, It is amazing how many people buy a car that they cannot afford to fully maintain and are later surprised when everything starts to go wrong. Make sure you don't buy somebody's bad example.

They are very expensive to keep up do not buy it unless you can afford the expense they are very high maintenance cars.just for an alternator you would pay about 400 or more.if you have alot of money buy it if you dont dont

Looking to buy a rover classic 75 2005 model. Diesel. It has done 96000 Kim's.Are they reliable. Do they have any flaws. Are they expensive to service.

Most times a diesel will last for miles and miles and yes parts on a diesel are costly but when working on one Rover will only let you go so far and the computer will alarm you to take it to the dealer. At this point you could be in for a lot of money you may not want to spend. Hope this helps.

Should I buy honda accord sport or ford fiesta st?

Both good cars, Hondas last far longer. Got a 2006 FRV that has done 175000 miles, 2.2 diesel and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, it is not mint but is excellent. Aford would not last as long and not be as reliable. Honda is a far better c r. Last car was a mondeo, nice car but was already falling to bits at 75000 miles when we sold it.

I have a 2004 jag x-type 3.0l v6 auto tranny w/70,000 miles and it has a lifter knock i believe? the noise gets louder and faster when i rev engine... what can i do about it?

three squirts of washing up liquid ,has to be fairy not a cheap one ,half a litre of diesel all added to the engine oil ,run for a couple of days as normal and the noise will diminish ,Then change oil and filter but use a 10/40 detergent oil suitable for a turbo diesel ,the cheapest you can buy ,now change oil every 6000m with a oil filter every third oil change .You have a noisey hydraulic tappet nothing more which is fairly common on this engine and its caused by not changing the oil enough and using expensive long life oil which causes problems like yours by allowing the combustion residue to accumulate within the internal workings of your engine ,

I want to buy a used car that cost around $2000-$3000. What type of things should I look for? so the car can last for at least 5 years

a simple car that has no fancy electronics ,now i would suggest a peugeot 206 ,nice car petrol or diesel but diesel manual preferably ,citreon C5 diesel manual these cars run forever with regular oil change ,Ford focus with the endura diesel turbo ,great motor runs forever and its a ford so parts might be easier in your time zone ,nissan diesel is good but parts are mainly dealer only ? which can be expensive ,same goes for mazda although a lot of parts on a mazda are ford ,although my grandmother always made me promise not to buy japanese as my uncle was on the burma railway ..But i do think the ford is the best bet but dont overlook VW ,they are good cars as well a nice golf diesel very reliable ,keep away from big luxury cars like old jags or mercs nice when running till they go wrong ,same goes for detroit steel as well ,keep away from big gas guzzlers with a high CO2 output because i think that the american goverment will catch a cold soon with their pledge to cut greenhouse gases as i thnk other countries will start to place embargos against it soon unless they are reduced ,Also with the recent oil spill in the golf i do think the goverment will up the price of fuel to europeon prices before long to force these gas guzzlers off the road so get the emmisions down within the limits set by the toyoto convention .So think about the small diesel car and dont dismiss it .Price of petrol here is about 1.20 euros a litre so as an american galoon is about 4.2 litres as i remember imagine paying 5 dollars a gallon then go ahead with buying that V8 cheroke jeep with a auto box then compare it with a small diesel engined car turning out over 50 mpg

Tdci engine

the liklihood isnt hi, most tdci engines are very reliable, as for the intercooler packing up i dont see that happening with normal use, blow by would be the only thing that would really worry you but a car this young wouldnt have issues. i think that you would be happy with the car and if you keep the services up like the previous owner the car will show you no problems :)

I purchased very similar here in the UK £4800 (trade) two years ago, only problem so far has been O2 sensor failure which I replaced myself but was still fairly expensive. Other than that car has been good. Check for Jag service history

Hard to start when engine warm on X Type Jaguar Diesel 2005

Well it is only a ford mondao with a different body shape ,No self respecting jag man would evan consider a diesel ,anyway enough winding up and back to problem ---diesel-- common rail injection ,,,,I honestly feel that it would need plugging in to a DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER to find the fault because its not like the older model diesels with an injector pump and its all manual .This could be a fault with the cold start or the injector that controls the firing order .Sorry i couldnt be of any more help but these new fancy electronics ??
