Question about 1990 Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

Hard start and choking

I have a 1990 Galant SuperSaloon and it's always a hard-start in the morning after the car has been idle the whole night and whenever I rev it up immediately upon starting, it seems to choke. So I step on the gas pedal on minimal increments until it is able to "clear up its throat" then it runs better. While the engine runs, I need to keep stepping on the accelerator to feed gas to it before it runs smoothly. When it's hot, the cranking is shorter but still not a one-click start unless I feed it with fuel before turning the ignition keys to start. I have already replaced the carbeuretor, spark plugs and fuel pump; I still have the same problem. What else could be causing the problem and what do you suggest?

my car ran fine it finally died i couldn't start it at first i discovered it would run but not idle i had a shop work on it they replaced the idle control module, this is a small electrical part located off the throttle cable also very $$ anyway after i got it back it has not been the same it now takes about 12 -15 cranks to get it running and then i have to feather the gas to keep it going 3 - 5 min and its ok all this i find really odd because car ran strong before this happened. by the way if this sounds familiar to you don't put it off to long because the starter will be the next thing to go yup true story any info would be great thank-you

I have the same "problem" with my 1990 Galant SS but I didnt think it was a problem. Everybody who knew anything about cars would always advice me to get the engine warmed-up first if it was left with the engine not running for long periods of time. I keep it warmed up for at least 5 minutes or so while waiting for the temp gauge to at least move towards the halway mark. But if its hot then a one click start should be the normal case. Try to get a tune-up on your nearest service center, they dont just replace the spark plugs but also have some sort of kit that helps with the idling and startup issues.

My 93 galant have low fuel presure at mornings so hard to start

If the pressure is low then you have a leak down (fuel in the lines leaking back into the tank) Early signs of fuel pump failure. Put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail and make sure the pressure is in fact dropping before you spend money to replace the pump.

I have a 1990 ford bronco and it will start fine in the morning after it has been sitting all night but once the motor worms up it becomes hard to start and some times won't start at all, then I let it sit...

If you mean "hard to start and sometimes won't start at all" because it doesn't turn over or doesn't turn over fast enough you need to replace the starter & solinoid.

I just rebuilt my F-150 1 barrel Carter carb (1985)once started runs great under all power ranges.Problem? Hard to start.

should adjust the butterfly to about 3/8" opening at 50 degrees farenheit when engine is cold. Usually about 1 mark to the lean side on the choke spring housing. If unsure set the choke to the center mark than richen up one mark at a time until the engine starts and idles up when cold after properly setting choke by fully depressing and releasing the accelerator before cranking. If it doesn't idle up enough turn up the fast idle screw 1/2 turn at a time. Another common problem with the YFA is the choke heat riser tube rusting off at the manifold and the choke not unloading when the engine warms. Install a new riser tube after using a drill bit the same diameter as the tube to drill out the remainder of the old tube in manifold before inserting the new tube and attaching to choke housing.

2000 mistubishi galant es idling rough seriously

Idling problems may be cause buy a number of issues.  You may check out the fast idle control valve and PCV if they would need cleaning.  You can check out the timing it may be advanced, that is why you feel that the car runs hard.

Most likely the coolant temperature sensor for the vehicle computer. Secondly, could be the tps sensor "throttle position sensor" not registering correctly or perhaps lots of other things but most likely the coolant temp sensor.
