You may have blown the head gasket... if the smoke is white its probably steam...have a cylinder leakage test done, then you'l know for sure..

Smoking after idling for a few minutes indicates bad valve stem seals. Smoking on acceleration indicates bad bearings and just smoking while driving indicates worn rings or glazed bores. All indicate a motor needing repair or replacement

Engine management light stays on

check whether you do have a smell of fuel or burnt gasket in the radiator after remove the cap. If so then you have an overheated engine and blown gasket. Or check whether if you have either water in engine oil or vice versa. Having any of the two,surely you have to remove cylinder head for renewing cylinder head gasket etc.

worn piston and rings

usually happens after overheating

There are a number of importers of replacement engines for these, cheaper than a new head from toyota

No power noisy engine smokey exhaust

Clean air filter, fuel filter and turbo filter. Check the inlet and outlet manifolds incl. EGR valve and Turbo gate. If there is particle filter then may be it is clogged. If its a diesel then open the injectors and clean it.
