Sounds like a oil sending unit check the backside of your motor upperside towards firewall on drivers side, looks like a 1to 11/2 inch plugg with 2 or 3 wires comeing from it. it may also be by the oil filter.. if its wett with oil you need to change it, when they go bad you will leave an oil line or oil drip while driving.maby lots of white smoke, you can let the car idol and look underneeth to track it down.. very easy to change. any auto parts stor should have them in stock.. just disconnect the wires and take out like removing a bolt.. then replace. if its on the bottom you may have to remove the oil first unless you want oil everywhere.. i hope this helps

1993 MARK VIII HAVE OIL OR TRANS LEAK ? MINUTE I START CAR, DRIVERS SIDE. HAVE TO SHUT IT OFF. LEAKS BAD. CANT SEE WHERE ITS COMING FROM ANY IDEAS

Would recommend to steam clean complete engine compartment, to include the bottom.

Next, top your fluids and place clean towels or rags. Start your car until leak is present. With flash light Che k where from. If fluid is redesh in color, it's transmission fluid. If it's dark brown or black, engine oil.

Check bottom of oil and transmission pans for possible cracks or damage.

Peugeot 407, 2.0 litre diesel, 05,loss of power/air surge heard

I am not familiar with the 407 but I would think it is a HDi, if so what you describe is an air leak from a pipe from the pressure side of the turbo, I have had this on a Saab, in that case there was an over pressure switch under the dash and the pipe fell off. Look at the top of the engine, on the inlet side there will be a pipe from the inlet trunking or manifold, it should (maybe with a tee piece in there) go through the bulkhead

I have a mazda 6 2 litre diesel eating oil, what

Mazda say that if your Mazda 6 consumues less than a litre every 900 miles then it within tolerance.
However these cars have a complicated induction mechanism controld by lots of diffrent vacume pots that are inturn controlled by servos, when any one of these becomes faulty the pressure balance between the exhaust side of the turbo and the inlet side becomes inbalanced, resulting in oil being forced through the turbos bearings. Its that simple lol!
The first thing I would check would be the swirl control valve, In the inlet manifold, This gets fouled up by the exhaust gases getting recycled by the egr valve(exhaust gas recycler)
Sooty deposits mix with oil coming from your turbo and jam it closed restricting the amount of air into the engine, and reducing power as well as creating black smoke from your exhaust.
So my advice would be to get your egr valve proffetionally blanked off, and have your induction system checked over.
Hope this helps as I am sure this is a very common problem!

Smell like burnt rubber in engine compartment on passengers side. 05 plate 2 litre Focus Diesel. Engine runs seemingly happily, no odd noises, no visible warning lights or messages.

I expect that you have an oil leak that is dripping/running on to the exhaust. The burnt oil will smells a bit like rubber. Check for oil leaks that are higher up on the engine. (Valve Cover gasket for example).
