Question about Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

I here a sound from what appears to be the right wheel. I have replaced the tire and still hear the noise. I am told it is the wheel bearing for a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant.I have also been told that the wheel can come off if not repaired right away, is this correct?

Sounds like a clunking noise, like the sound you hear when you have a flat tire, Tire isnt flat. turning right on the wheel lessons the sound but stays the same turning left. noise seems to be getting...

its a wheel bearing. .will need to be inspected to determine the correct one. Also tires could also do this if the steel seperated internally. Rotate the suspected tire to see if it follows the tire.

My 94 plymouth voyager sounds and acts like a wheel bearing humm. i've replaced front and rear wheel bearings and the humm is still there.

I'd certainly rotate tires to see if noise changes at all, as well as take a good look at tread on front tires, especially for excess or unusual wear on edges, especially outside of right front, if your quite sure the noise is coming from the right side. Does the noise increase, decrease, or stay same, on a left hand turn? Another thing would be to check all motor, and transmission mounts and see if it looks like things may have shifted slightly, or if they appear worn or broken, as well as If engine/transaxle has shifted slightly it can cause similar noises as well. As far as left front bearing goes, I wouldn't rule it out 100% either, unless you are positive noise is from right front area. You have to remember, either way you turn the wheel, will slightly shift either bearing if there is play in it. Rule out easy stuff first like tires.

My car makes a bad growling noise. Everyone said that it was a front wheel bearing because that tire was worn down really bad on the outside. I replaced the passenger front wheel bearing, and it is still...

WHEEL BEARING USUALLY STARTS MAKING A ROARING TYPE NOISE WHICH USUALLY GETS LOUDER THE FASTER YOU DRIVE, SOMETIMES THEY WILL BE LOOSE , TO CHECK JACK UP THAT WHEEL AND GRAB TOP AND BOTTOM OF TIRE AND SHAKE, IF THERE IS MOVEMENT, TRY TO GET SOMEONE TO ROCK TIRE FOR YPU AND WATCH WHERE AXLE GOES INTO CENTER OF BEARING AND SEE IF AXLE IS MOVING WITH TIRE MOVEMENT AND SPINDLE REMAINS STATIONARY, THEN IT IS BAD BEARING, OR SOMETIMES THERE WILL BE NO MOVEMENT, THEN BLOCK REAR WHEELS AND RUN CAR WITH THAT WHEEL IN AIR AND SEE IF YOU HEAR NOISE, GOOD LUCK.

Road noise / front end vibration

The noise you're hearing is consistent with a bad wheel bearing. It's true, the only way to actually tell is to pull the hub/bearing. I'd try to isolate what side of the car the noise is coming from and pull that wheel. If it's not a wheel bearing, it could be transmission related but these things are usually solved by replacing the wheel bearing.

I noticed a louder engine sound at approx 45 mph, like a humming or aceleration sound, I had the driver's side wheel bearing replaced to the tune of approx $300 but the sound still remains (the repair guy...

Chevrolet has a common problem with integral hub and wheel bearings wearing due to exessive use or lack of lubrication, the balls or rollers and races become pitted ,scored or just plain damaged which will infact cause a loud humming or growling noise. I have had some humm at about the same speed but usually they will start to make noise at any speed. I would have to hear the noise to be sure cause there are many things to cause a humming noise like odd tire wear, bad idler pully bearings, e.t.c. the tires should be lifted checked for excessive play in the bearing. Take tire off depress brake piston in just enough secure brake rotor use stethoscope spin hub while listening. maybe he replaced wrong side seen that alot, seen tire noise mistaken for bad bearing to if struts or shocks are worn can cause tires to be choppy. I would recommend taken back 300 dollars is alot of money to not fix your problem.

Steering wheel vibration and whine noise from rear of car

Yes, and it probably is your wheel bearing. Hearing a sound like a chain dragging is classic. You may also hear a clicking noise or chain dragging noise when turning to the left or right.

Look under the car and see if the rubber boots that surround the axle near the tires are cracked and leaking grease. If so, it is almost a certainty that the bearings are bad as you have lost grease and thus lubrication to the bearings.

Good luck,

Sounds like a wheel bearing going, or gone. Possible tire/alignment, but more than likely, wheel bearing. You going to fix, or have it fixed?

Noise coming from front of car

It sounds exactly like a wheel bearing problem. The right side its seems would be the problem. When you turn right it puts more pressure on the bad bearing making it louder. I would suggest replacing both. If on is gone the other one isn't far off. Hope this helps
