Question about 2005 Ford F-150

F-150 Supercrew-Outside Temp gauge

I want to thank you for the quick response to my question. I don't have the chance right now to check to see if the compass is working right or not. I'm kind of thinking though that it isn't working(compass). I read the manual and it says the only way to reset it is to see my dealer, any ideas? Thanks again and I hope you can help me fix my problem

    Hi snownbird,

I tried disconnecting my battery to no avail. It's still the same thing. The compass works just fine. The temp in my truck says it's 32 degrees and it is only really around 20 degrees, any suggestions. Thanks for all your help

Hi, and thanks again. Where can I disconnect the unit as I don't know and where do I spray the water? Please let me know thanks

Thanks again for your help. I tried taking out the sensor and cleaning it up. Nothing seems to work. I guess it is give out. I'll have to buy another one. I can have my truck put in and get it done on warranty but I have to pay a deductible. If I only got to change the probe it would probably cheaper to do it myself. I don't know how much one may be though, any idea. Take care

Once again thanks. I think the sensor is fine. I checked it and with the temp in low 20's it read around 29,000. I don't really know how to check the EATC module as my truck don't have the Automatic button, just the mini-cluster in the bottom right corner of the dash where the mileage is displayed. Can it be checked by just putting the key in "On", and by the way the voltage is checked in the fuse panel??Please let me know thanks

    Good day:

If I remember the sensor should be left side (drv's side) front. If you are standing at the front of the vehicle in the center, it should be approx with in 6" area of your right hand. should be in the gap between the front of vehicle and the rad. just unplug the senors for an bit, couple of Min's, you can make sure that there is no maud of **** covering the sensor. Hope this helps, please let me know.

one more thing to make sure its the sensor. going to check for resistance.

    -- key in off position

    -- disconnect the sensor

-- measure the resistance between the senor terminals

-- is the resistance within the specified values for these temps ranges. 10-20 c (50-68 F) 37,000-58,000 ohms

    20-30 c (68-86F) 24,000-37,000 ohms

    30-40C (86-104F) 16,000-24000 ohms

If not you require a new sensor

If range is ok then go on to check the EATC module output voltage

    -- Key in ON position

    -- Press the automatic button

-- Measure the voltage between the sensor , circuit 3061 (LB/OG) and circuit 470 (PL/BK)

Not to sure how much that sensor would be off hand. Check on ebay.

try these test then we can go from there. Good luck.

I need to take display panel for temp and compass out to check connection, 2001 f 150 super crew lariat sunroof

Could be 1 of 2 types.
1st type has a single crew in the bottom of the overhead console, with a screw in it, and spring clips towards the display.
2nd type is held on with spring clips only, they are hard to pull out the 1st time.
Check which type you have.
The display, chances are the display has had one of the resistors come loose, these are 51 ohm resistors, and could just have 1 side that came unsoldered, or could be missing all together.
This is what the SuperDuty overhead console looks like when the resistors are missing ( these are 68 phm resistors, different than the F-150 ), to give you an idea of what to look for.

Gauge temperature

Your description of the problem is not very clear. It seems as if your temp gauge does not work, or does not indicate the correct temperature.
If you disconnect the wire from the sensor unit and put it to battery negative (ground), the gauge should move to the full hot position. If this does not happen the best chance is that the gauge does not work. If it does work, the sensor is faulty. In a very unlikely situation, the wire could be faulty..

Onboard Temp gauge

This probably occurs when you start up after the engine has been off for a few hours. What is happening is that the module is taking a new temp reading however heat from the radiator is causing the sensor to read a warmer value than it really is. I suggest that you relocate the temp sensor further away from the radiator and closer to the grill opening in order to read actual ambient temp (approx 6" should work).

Outside temperature sensor

Here's a link to show you where to look, appears it's to left of drivers headlight looking from in front of vehicle, attached to or near upper rad support. My guess is it will probably be a dealer item, depending how fast you want it I guess. Don't be afraid to pull wire connector off & clean & re-install it, just to see if that doesn't help. A little di-electric grease on installation is a good idea too, to help keep moisture out.
When you get to link(page) scroll down to 4.6L engine, page 2 & click on that. Might not be your engine, but good chance ambient sensor is in same area.( )

Onboard Temperature gauge

Does your direction work ok? I have seen that if you reset the compass then this will correct the temp problem. If not you can try disconnecting the battery for approx a min and this should reboot the system. If this don't work let me know and I can try to how you fine the fault.
