Onboard Temperature gauge

Hi,
My 2005 Ford F-150 Supercrew 4x4 has a onboard Direction/Temperature gauge (Tells outside temperature). I bought the truck in April 2008 and everything seemed fine but now, the temperature is off by 10-15 degrees. Can you please tell me what maybe wrong and if it can be fixed. Thanks

Direction, temperature, odometer LCD gauge blank for 2wks., then ok for 1 day, and blank now for 2 months. Read that cracked solder joints on ribbon pin connector may be the problem. My 2005 F-150 XLT has 47,000 mi. and extended warranty. Should I attempt repair (I am knowledgeable) or is it covered? If not, should it be left to Ford anyway?

We've had the same problem with our outside temp gauge. Today, it is reading 140 degrees and it's 35 outside. My husband is traveling and likes to know the outside temp in case it is freezing roads. I will advise him to disconnect the battery and see if that works.

Does your direction work ok? I have seen that if you reset the compass then this will correct the temp problem. If not you can try disconnecting the battery for approx a min and this should reboot the system. If this don't work let me know and I can try to how you fine the fault.

Cheers

Coolant temperature sensor location on 97 ford expedition

I believe they are located in the intake manifold somewhere. Make sure the one that tells the computer the coolant temp is ACTUALLY giving out the correct temperature. I had a bad one one time in a 1993 Ford F-150, 5.8L....... no check engine light came on but hard to start. The bad sensor was telling the computer it was 32 degrees F when it was almost 80 degrees outside.!!
Garbage in=Garbage out.

Here is a video link from Youtube. There are 2 sensors, 1 for the guage and the other tells the on-board computer how hot/cold the coolant is. The one for the guage has 1-wire and the other one has 2 wires.
Hope this helps, ask more if you need to. What kind of problem are you having? No heat inside? Guage needle not getting into the normal area?

Whining noise when temperature is below 0 on 2005 f150

A whining noise when it is extremely cold outside is usually caused by the power steering pump due to the fluid being real thick at low temperatures. This noise usually goes away as the vehicle warms up and the fluid thins out.

Onboard temp gauge

you need to go to the parts house and purchase an ambient temperature sensor. that is the sensor that tells the car what the outside temp. is. I hope that helps you out.

Onboard Temp gauge

This probably occurs when you start up after the engine has been off for a few hours. What is happening is that the module is taking a new temp reading however heat from the radiator is causing the sensor to read a warmer value than it really is. I suggest that you relocate the temp sensor further away from the radiator and closer to the grill opening in order to read actual ambient temp (approx 6" should work).
