I am sorry to say that your mechanic is about right. I looked and they run anywhere from 512.00 and up.

There are not too many options for these newer cars but to go with original equiptment, unlike those beautify oldies but goodies that you can put almost anything on.

A/C Receiver Drier/Accumulator - need info.

The accumulator protects the compressor from slugs of un- evaporated refrigerant (liquid refrigerant will destroy a compressor), water and trash. It appears that your mechanic knows his stuff.

I need to replace air conditioner compressor w/clutch for my 2006 saturn ion 2 sedan automatic 4 cyl-I've found new ac compressor w/clutch at different auto part shops ranging from $175-$500 and w

is it full of freon? if so it could be that you just need to change the magnetic clutch which is a lot simpler job and cheaper too. get a book first so you have referance pull the belt off pull the nut in the center of the ac compressor make shure that you know what the clearance is betwean the clutch and the compressor it has shims and is imperative that the clearance is right you will need measurment tools feeler gages work best but befor you do any of this you need to make sure there is power and ground going to the two wire conector going to the clutch it wont get power till you turn the ac on or the computer tells it to run for the interior eco system so a magnetic cluch will not turn on if there is no signal resulting in the compressor not terning making the ac not work but its fairly simple to do and 900 is a dicent price at a shop but they would probably charge you for the whole compressor and charging the system and it was only a cluch if there is freon and the compressor isnt siezed and theres signal and ground change the clutch

Power steering stopped working, battery light came on, car overheated on a 2001 taurus: being told by mechanic that the air conditioner compressor needs to be replaced. Sounded to like the belt needs to...

unforutionatly your mechanic may be right if the ac compressor locked up it will eat the belt and make the other things not work like the water pump ,altanator, power steering.esay to check though remove belt see if you can turn the ac pump by hand.if you mechanic is worth his salt he will even show you this.

Air conditioner not putting out cold air - had "freon" replaced - mechanic says radiator fan motor needs replacing ($500), but engine does not run hot - would this affect air conditioning temperature -...

Should have two fans one is the radiator fan and the other is the condensor fan .If the condensor fan does not come on then the ac will not work.

well first find out if its the compressor or the clutch pulley is it making noises as long as the clutch pulley is moving it will work but if the comp is bad it will need to be replaced the comp is the part of the a/c system so yes it will make the a/c not work deforst and stuff use it
