04 Ranger rough idle

My 04 Ranger has a 3.0 V6 and has a rough idle,I took it to ford and they did a EEc test and found a code P0306 .Relative compression test and found cylinders 4,5,&6 ower than bank one. Now they want me to replace both cylnder heads, This yruck has only 76000 miles. I can't beleive this is not a faulty part. Anyone else having this problem?

2004 Range Edge. Code P0306. changed spark plug and ran fine for a few hours and still misfires. Will replace wires and try that

I took my 2000 Ford Ranger to the garage to figure out why it idled rough. They told me bad injector on #4 and #6. Replaced with used ones and it made no difference. Decided to replace #4, #5, and #6 injectors with new and still no difference. Also did plugs and wires at same time. Runs fine down the road but runs rough at idle. Coil pack possibly next? Also leaning towards a wiring issue. Don't really know for sure. I want my 1979 F-350 back!

Same problem. '04 Ranger Edge 3.0L V6. They're telling me I need to buy a new head. Rumor is there's a TSB but Ford said no.

Same problem here!!  2004 3.0 V6. 100,000 mi.  Runs fine until idle, #5 misfire.   It started running perfectly for a day and a half, then all of a sudden started up again.  Still working on it.  PCV?  Idle Air Valve?  Coil?

I would check your crankshaft positing sensor this may be bad. I would also change your spark plugs and wires becuase they may have got water in them causing a short between them and the head. I would very carefully use air to clean the dirt from your engine compartment first. Autozone runs a free code check for you and this will tell you your problem. To clear your codes and to make the check engine light go off take off your battery cables and wait 30 minutes. You may also have a bad coil which will cause a misfire as well and a 306 error means a misfire to your 6th cylinder so it's probaly this. I hope this information helps.

2.8 v6 ford ranger runs rough at a idle how do I fix this

Being an 85, I would start by replacing all the vacuum lines and fittings, along with the pcv valve. Next would be a tune up, clean the throttle/carb and a fuel and air filter.

Same issue with the rough idle with a warm engine 4.0 Ranger

i would think a plugged fuel injector on # 6 cylinder could be the problem,or a big vacuum leak at that cylinder
a valve burnt/stuck could be but you dont see much of that anymore
could be coolant leaking into cylinder from leaky haed gasket but you would have to add coolant every so often
i would check #6 cyl. spark plug after driveing around a while if it looks new, ie no deposits on it then an injector would be what i would change next

My truck idling low and spitting gas out exhaust

Hello Charles...I don't know what engine package you have in your ranger the 3.0 or 4.0 litre, but regardless, a diagnostic scan needs to be performed to determine the cause of the problems. Sounds like the Electronic Engine Control (EEC-IV) has stored hard codes. A self test can be performed where Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are transmitted on the Self Test Output (STO) wire located on the vehicle self test connector. The codes are in the form of timed pulses, and are read by the technician on a scan tool or the CHECK ENGINE light. With the information recieved the proper repairs needed to correct the problem can be determined, other wise you are just guessing.
Good Luck...i hope this helps and will fixya up.
