Question about 2002 Dodge Neon

1 Answer

Car won't start

I have a 2002 dodge neon, about 130,000mi. I was running errands one day and when I tried to start it, nothing happened. No starter crank, nothing. However when I jumped it with a jump box it started right up. HOWEVER, all the electronics in the car started going haywire! speedo, tach, lights flickering, etc. It's now been sitting for a couple weeks and the lights and everything still work, but it still will not even crank. the only code I got was p1684, which seems to be useless. the charging light and everything does go off when on the on position, but the speedo, tach etc..go crazy. Any ideas?????

I'd probably start with cleaning my connections at battery, & making sure my battery has a full charge. If not cured, maybe a new battery is required. If it will start with a jump, try running it for a couple of minutes with boosters on, and if all appears o.k. , change your battery.

Car will not start, its not battery, I was told its a fuse, need diagram of fuses to which one affects starting car

Car will not start how ? A crank- no - start or a no crank - no - start < meaning when you turn the key to the start position does anything happen ? Starter engages an spins the engine an doesn't start an run ! Or when you turn the key to start the position nothing happens ? Who told you it was a fuse ? Are there any light's lit on the instrument cluster , SECURITY ? If Nothing happens Find the starter relay an jump pin's 30 & 87 , if nothing is wrong with starter , battery , battery cables it should spin the engine . Is your vehicle automatic transmission or stick ? Automatic has a neutral safety switch , won't let vehicle engine spin unless in park or neutral . Manual has clutch switch , won't let starter engage unless the clutch pedal is pressed . Both of these switches can go bad . There are videos on youtube on basic electrical trouble shooting . Also on testing starter circuit . How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit

My car won't start sometimes...no sound..nothing. Other times it starts fine. What could be causing this?

sounds like a starter problem.. it may have a flat spot and will only not start when the flat spot lines up causing the no start problem. change the starter it will probably fix the problem.

I have a 2004 Dodge Neon and I just replaced the battery and for some reason sometimes when I'm running a lot of errands when I turn it off it won't turn on again. It won't even make any noises...

Something is wrong in your start circuit. From battery to ignition switch, and ending at the starter solenoid. You would have to start checking for where power is lost between the switch and the starter. If you have power to the starter solenoid on the small wire at the starter (can check with a test light while someone holds the key in start), then the starter would need testing.

check for the starter motor but I suspect a flywheel gear worn. By removing the starter motor would be easier to check the flywheel gear.

have you check the starter? sounds like that is the issue. if the click from the fuse box is the starter relay then you are most likely getting signal to the starter. try to bang on it with a metal pole while some one turns the key radipidly. let me know what happens.

You probably have a bad or failing battery. Will it jump start and continue to run OK?

2002 Dodge Neon Starter

might want to try charging the battery for a while on a battery charger.
usually when a vehicle does this, its because the alternator is trying to charge the battery more then normal causing the motor to rev higher.
