My power window has stop functioning, stuck halfway. I need to remove the panel to gain access to the power window mechanism. The idiot designers made the panel impossible to remove (without breaking it) without the info and/or special tools. What happened to the good old days, when you just removed a few screws and pulled the panel off? Where can I find a COMPREHENSIVE guide to removing the panel? This will have to include pictures or schematics to show where the clips are located and in which order to pop them loose. I tried pulling the edges up enough to see inside, but I would have to break the damn cheap plastic to raise the edges up enough. If they deliberately designed the thing to frustrate the owner, they couldn't have done a better job of it. I am an aircraft design engineer, and if I created such a stupid design I would be fired. Re: 2000 drivers side interior door panel
You have two screws one under the grab handle at the back of it and one under the power switch buttons. They pop out.Remove the bezel around door handle and lift up on the door panel.it does not clip in but has slots in door it slides down in.the bolts are 7mm

you will have to remove the interior door trim to gain access to the inside of the door.
i am not sure of the setup in your door but if it is cable driven you may have to replace the whole winder mechanism as I think they come as a unit.
If it is pop riveted to the door panel you will have to drill the rivets out and replace with new ones
Have a good look or take a pic at how it is mounted b4 you start pulling it down
the window has detatched from the window regulator(the part that holds the glass in position and moves up and down)you need to remove the door trim to gain access to it and remove the window mechanism or manovre the glass back to the top and hold it with tape and take to a mechanic or auto elec
You will have to remove the screws to door panel, remove window and lock controls. Then gently pry the plastic studs out of the door and lift the panel up and off. You will now have access to track and window
I hope this helps , easier done than said :)
1- Remove door latch bezel. (handle)
2- You will find door trim panel retaining bolt , remove it.
3- Remove the door pull handle screw cover.
4- Remove the door pull handle retaining screws.
5- Detach the interior door trim panel ( to make removal easy , release clip by lowering glass and pressing case inwords)
6- Disconnect the door trim harness electrical connector.
7- Remove the door trim.
8- Disconnect the driver door module electrical connector
9- To install , reverse removal procedures
first remove the tweeter speker if equipped this comes off easily by gently prying from behind, then remove the small panel behind pull handle you"ll find a screw behind it\remove that, the next part is a little tricky the door grip needs to come off to achieve this place a small flat screwdriver at the top of the handle and pry forward the turn handle counterclockwise and this will release it from the clips you"ll then find 2 screws one at the top other at the bottom of door grip remove those and then gently pry from the bottom of the door panel to release the retaining clips thats it
Disconnect your negative battery cable. Locateand remove the screws that hold your interior door handles in place (they maybe hidden by snap in, or snap on clips). Remove the interior door handles, thendisconnect the wire clips to the switches. Your panel is held in place by snapin clips; use a small pry bar to pull them from the door (try to get as closeto, or directly under the clips to prevent them from tearing out of the doorpanel). Once the clips are pulled, pull the panel upward to remove it from thedoor. Once you gain access to the interior of the door, you can remove your window regulator and re-position it, or replace it so it works. Install in reverse.
SECTION 501-05: Interior Trim and Ornamentation
2000 Taurus/Sable Workshop Manual
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Rear Door Trim Panel
Removal and Installation
Remove the rear door trim panel screws.
NOTE: The rear door trim panel has eight two-part pin-type retainers. The male part of the retainer will remain with the trim panel and the female part will remain with the door. NOTE: To release the door trim panel pin-type retainers, first pull outward on the bottom of the door trim panel. Remove the rear door trim panel.
Disconnect the window regulator control switch electrical connector.
You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle,
arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the
panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want
to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to
get it off the window ledge. If needed, you can pull back the weather
(can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to
access everything inside the door
Both above answers are not right... I just replaced the Pass side power mirror assembly on my 97 Expedition. No heat, no directional. The inside door panel must come off. 1. pry off interior triangular plastic trim piece inside of door at mirror area. Remove door panel screw at this area. 2. Pry off power window switch panel and remove door panel screw at this area. 3.Remove interior door light cover and remove screw at this area. 4. Remove plastic cover at door handle. 5. The interior door panel can now be lifted up to release it from it's fasteners. 6. Disconnect light and push power window switch assembly through the door panel and it can be set aside. 7. Disconnect mirror power at coupler. 8 Loosen three mirror mounting screws with 7/16 socket. DO NOT unscrew completely.. the will fall down the door cavity. Use a round magnet on holder to remove the screws completely. 9.Thread electrical connection into door panel and install mirror. 10. Smile when mirror works and drink a beer! rayman
