It is located on the intake side of the engine by the flywheel, One bolt holds it in. 8 or 10 mm.
This can be tested with an ohm meter. readings should be between 500 to 700 ohms. Anything out of this range replace it

Crank speed sender or engine speed sender it;s locatede on cylinder block near gear box housing.gose direct to cank end fix with one bolt (LNK tool) can be replaced easy then S.W on and off then On and start so. it will erease the fauls.

the important is to clean this bolt inside first with sharp small stick then the tool will guide you , sure the tool fix properly in bolt you should littil hammer to in to remove paint lock which is use to lock the bolt you can use LNK No. 5 or socket flower No 10 mm.

The crankshaft sensor is located near the botom of the oil deep stick, next to the gearbox housing.
I think you may need to use special VW torx. good luck.......
