I have the same problem as jeffwater. seldom use the car in the winter and battery is dead if I don't run the car every two weeks or so. I don't see a switch on the trunk light. is it possible the light remains on when the trunk is closed? a new battery did not clear the problem, so there must be a drain on the battery somewhere.

Hi, Car batteries lose their power over time if not used or charged. If you store your car in winter, take the battery out and give it a slow charge every month. (just like you do with a motorcycle battery). Or, start the motor and let it run 15-20 minutes every couple weeks. I would recommend doing that anyway to keep the engine oil from draining completely out of your bearings and possibly siezing up motor upon startup a few months later or bearing/engine damage due to excess wear on dry bearings. Thats the nature of the beast, there is no cure for it. Mike

2002 Rav4 Battery Keeps Draining, Could this be a short?

check for bare wires starting at the battery and move toward alternator. if a bare wire touches the car body it will kill the battery. basically check whatever wires you can see. otherwise, get an obd-II tester and see what code it gives you

I have a '70 chevy w a new battery from walmart. I don't use the car often and when I go to turn it on the battery is dead usually a week.

Hi,
You have a parasitic draw on the battery. Suggested to just disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable until you need it. A '70 has no electronics that need power...other than maybe the radio??

Help! Changed battery but still don't work for a long time

you probably have a short in the amplifier under the driver's seat. I had the same problem. Bought mine used, but the amp had water damage due to the vents for it on the left side of the driver's seat letting in water, probably snow or something that fell in there. Was $1200 to replace. Basically your car will be fine for a couple weeks, maybe a month then the battery will die.

Had a dead battery Thursday a.m. got a boost. Took it to have the battery tested. Guy told me it was 5 years old, testing not bad but recommended a new battery with winter coming. Today. dead battery...

There is a switch above the break peddle that is adjustable for the break lights. This is running your battery down that is why the gauges are jumping. Change the battery.. If it is 5 years old draining it dead will kill the cells. Hope this helps.

Repalced battery as old one had dead cell the new battery was fitted and went flat have replaced starter and alt but still get flat battery have check all fuses and all are in woking order and to stage...

check the parasitic draw on the battery. If the draw is greater than 40 ma, something is causing the battery to go flat before it should. Recommend you monitor parasitic draw using a DVOM (Digital Volt Ohm Meter) and unplug one fuse at a time until you discover which circuit is draining the battery.
