You should look into the condition of your spark plugs the may have a very large gap over 1mm

My ford explorer 1996 gauge would drop below 500rpm when i step on the break to stop and engine vibrate, rpm will return back to 800 once I shift to neutral. Please advise what's wrong.

If you have a vacuum assisted brake then check the brake booster for failure allowing air into the mixture and running the engine lean. Simple test allow the engine to idle in neutral. If ok then place your foot on the brake and if it changes then it is the booster . Replace with serviceable unit.

How is the idle? Is it turned up and idles too much when brakes are applied? How are the motor and tranny mounts? Are they good, solid, and sturdy?

There is steady & heavy vibration in the cabin interior when idling in drive with the foot on the brake. changed all the mounts but no improvement. any ideas?

I would than check the transmission, there is a problem with it, as well as the power steering pump sounds to be giving trouble. On the automatic gearbox there is a free flywheel plate that might be worn and thats why you get these troubles during driving but less in neutral or parking, the revs are not constant because the gearbox is trying to engage when should not.

98 mazda 626..starts then shakes and then shuts off

A few things could be causing this problem:
  1. Vibration when running is an indication that one or more spark plugs are fouled or missing
  2. Cracked/worn distributor cap
  3. On all models except the Millenia, the fuel filter is attached to a bracket located in the left rear of the engine compartment, next to or beneath the brake master cylinder fluid reservoir
I hope this answered your question. Best of luck.

96 GC Orvis-Severe vibration in Idle.

Before you go changing the idle motor, clean the throttle body out with a spray cleaner and make sure you get into the idle speed motor orifice. Spray the cleaner into the throttle body with the engine off, do'nt be afraid to use it all then let it sit awhile. When you try to start the car it might not want to start, just keep your foot all the way down on the gas pedal and as it starts and clears up just release the pedal slowly. If the car smokes out of the exhaust, thats normal. Hope this works.

93 cavalier vibrating

your probably feeling a rough idle of the engine. need a tune up?

in park the engine is not loaded down, just idling at a low rpm=rough
in drive with brake on you have put some load on motor also at low rpm=rough
in drive on the road engine is at higher rpm, = smoother

generally 4 cylinder motors idle a bit rough, especially if one spark plug is not firing right or fouled or one bad spark plug wire. tune up may fix it. if it is not stumbling real bad or stalling then you can live with it.

check your motor mounts by holding your foot on the brakes, set the E-brake and have someone watch the motor as you shift into reverse and touch the gas a little bit do the same in drive if the motor moves allot back and forth you need new motor and possibly transmission mounts good luck and please rate -jeff
