I can't quite tell if you mean the engine runs but with very little power, or if there is power but the transmission is slipping?

If the power is failing, then the question is when does it happen?
Is it temperature related, only happens at high speed, or is it only after a period of driving fast? If so, it could be a temperature sensor, the fuel pump or filter, or it could be the air mass sensor being coated with foam from the PVC valve, or it could be a plugged catalytic converter.
Do the engine lights come on or any other indicator?

If the engine has power but transmission slips, then check the ATF (automatic tranmission fluid) to see if it is low or burned smelling, or dark. If it is, then either fill or change it, and have it checked by a tranmission specialist.

Engine runs for about 30 seconds and shutdown like an electrical shutdown as opposed to a fuel related shutdown.

Why does 2000 s40 volvo turbo runs hot and the fan stays on after shut off

fans are designed to run on after you shut engine down as engine temperature rise after switching off . running hot could be caused by the top hose having gone soft when you rev the engine the water pump sucks the hose flat stopping the coolant flow or the radiator is blocked and need flushing out

2001 jimmy..engine starts and runs for 6sec then shuts off, starts again and shuts off I can rev engine but after 6sec it shuts off...I have changed coil and I am going to change knock sensor.what do you...

Huh??? Why change the Knock Sensor? The Knock Sensor is not going to cause your engine to shut down. Sounds like a Cam Sensor or MAP Sensor problem to me. Is the computer setting any codes?

Sometimes you can diagnose a messed-up MAP sensor by unplugging it and starting the engine. If the MAP is causing your problem, it will start and run. (It won't run very good, but it should idle OK)

If you have a 4.3L engine, I have seen Cam Sensors cause a start and stall condition. (part of the distributor assembly)

1998 gmc jimmy 4.3 vortec starts and runs but shuts down when reaching operating temperature.

Your fuel filter may be at it's life time and will need to be replaced. Start with the simple and replace that, the other thing also that would cause the engine to shut down would be a faulty oil pressure sending unit. What is the oil pressure on the dash when the engine shuts down. You need at least 8 PSI to have the engine stay running. Check your Fuel pressure at the shredder valve and you should be 62-65 PSI with the engine not running and fuel system energized, once the engine is running it should drop about 5PSI. The last thing that could cause this would be a bad ICM, once the ignition system heats up the ICM fails and the engine shuts down. A mentioned, start with the simple and replace the fuel filter and check your fuel pressure to ensure your fuel Sending unit has not gone bad and will need to be replaced. Good luck and keep me posted.
