I believe my heating/ac motor resistor is bad - fan doesn't work on high

There doesn't seem to be any manuals available for the 07 Grand Caravan. Can someone tell me where on the vehicle to find the resistor that controls the speed of the heating/cooling fan?

I have a 2005 Grand Caravan that recently lost all blower activity. Turns out the heat-sensitive fuse in the resistor assembly blew. Not sure why it got hot enough in that compartment to blow the fuse, but it did.

Once you remove the resistor assembly, use a voltmeter to test for continuity across the opposite ends of the small tubular looking device in the center of the resistor assembly. If it does not conduct electricity, it's blown.

Unfortunately, none of the local parts houses carry this item (at least yet). Will be going to a dealership tomorrow.

Look behind the glove compartment door. Press the tabs holding it inward to let it drop out of the way.
I'm getting suspicious that the resitor block isn't to blame for these problems. May be the switch. The resistor block looks to be bullet-proof but it is a hard to test assembly.

Where is the heater resistor on a 2005 dodge dakota? Behind glove box?

should be just above the blower motor. You will need to remove the glove box door to gain access.

01- Dodge Caravan AC Heater Control it only works on high none of the speeds work when I rotate the switch from low to high. Is this a swith problem or a motor problem?

Most likely neither. The most common cause is that an electrical device called the blower motor resister block, has failed. This device provides all the slower speeds. It is generally mounted in the HVAC [Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning] box, very close to the blower motor. FYI, we mechanics call the fan motor inside the cabin the blower motor. The electric fan motor behind the radiator is called the cooling fan motor.
If the resistor block is OK, then you have either a bad fan speed switch or a melted electrical connector at that switch. 95% of the time, the resister block is the problem.

When the heat or air is on, the fan only works on high

This generally is caused by a bad blower motor resistor. This is located by blower motor either under the passenger side dash or behind the glove box.

01 grand.prix ac fan switch only works on high. has a duel temp controller when you turn fan off the only way fan comes back on is to move the temp controller levers

Hi!!
When the Blower Motor Resistor (controls blower speeds) goes bad, the blower motor works only on HIGH SPEED. REPLACE IT.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR Removal & Installation
  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove right lower instrument panel insulator panel.
  • Disconnect blower resistor connector located behind right side of dash.
  • Remove blower resistor screws and blower resistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

My 02 grand caravans heat/ac isnt working properly. the rear heat works on all fan speeds, but the front only works on high.

Replace the motor resistor-pack located behind the glove box. Open the glove box, then grasp the side parts of the lid and pull them together somewhat--this will release the lid and allow it to flop down (empty the box contents first). The resistor is mounted next to the blower motor and is held in place with one bolt. This is a common failure with these vans. Hope this helps!

2001 caravan fan only blows on high ac/heat both front and rear(dual air)

It is the blower motor resistor located behind the dash glove box. Take the glove box out to access and change. It is mounted on/into the fire wall.
Very easy to access, remove and install a new resistor.

Heater fan runs on high only . switch does not control speed of fan all other controls seem to work fine

Heater fan runnin on high only? Wow.......kinda feels like a hurricane doesn't it? You described a tsb to the t......I love it when people give an accurate history......now...what ya need to do is get up under the pass side of the dash.....open the front pass door...get on your knees and look up underneath the glovebox....that is where your blower motor resistor is...right next to your blower motor itself....your blower motor is the big flying saucer looking thing..and your resistor...which is what youre replacing...is about the size of a business card.that is whats keepin your motor on high and not adjustable......the part should run a little more than fifty dollars i believe........k......HOPE I HELPED!!!!!

Blower motor only works on high.

you can go to Alldata.com to subcribe to the factory manual, but you need the blower motor resistor, a dealer item. And typically its located by the blower mounted to the blower housing.

2005 jeep grand cherokee 4.7 Ac fan lost the 3 lower settings, only the high setting still worked. For a while the lower fan settings would just come on, and then go out again. The high fan setting...

Well, the blower resistor handles the lower speeds and the hi-blower relay handles the hi speed only. if the fan still works on the lower speeds then the resistor is bad. if the fan doesn't work at all then your motor has failed and or burn't the relay out also. if you can get your blower to start by hitting the kick panel above the pass. side foot area then the motor is bad. if you are handy enough to drop the kick panel and access the motor then check the connections at the motor. Then wack the motor and see if it comes on then. you will most likely find the problem if you follow those simple rules above. Good luck.
