Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Over-heating I just recently have been having over-heating problems with my 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited. I have replaced the thermostat and flushed the radiator, and have a relatively new water-pump. It stays cool while idling but not when i drive. i don't know where else to look. -AJ

When the engine is at operating temp check the electric cooling fan. If it is not moving then i would check the fan relay which is located under the right side headlamp. 9 times out of 10 this is the problem

Where is thermostat located on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 ? Thanks

Locate the top radiator hose...follow it down to the motor...the housing that the hose connects to is where the thermostat is..usually there are 2 screws to remove and then it just comes up and the thermostat is inside

This is a common problem with WJ Grand Cherokees, it's called a "Blend Door".

In the heating and cooling system you have doors that open and close to give you warm and cold air and a mix of both.

What you have is an arm that pulls a door with peg on top, the peg tends to snap off. As you said your dealer replaced the blend door or doors I would take it back as is has blend door all over it.

Yahoo and youtube "jeep grand cherokee blend door repair"

I had a 02 limited blend doors issues (note the issueS) and was lucky to have it still covered.

I do hope this helped.

I'm trying to locate the thermostat on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee

  1. On 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L V8
  2. Remove lower radiator hose clamp and lower radiator hose at thermostat housing.
  3. Remove thermostat housing mounting bolts, thermostat housing and thermostat.

Note:on the In-line 6 4.0L model the thermostat housing is mounted at the top of the engine block next to the water pump.

I don't know of any real proceedure, Just make sure its full and there is no air traped in the system, If there are any bleeders like around the thermostat housing, or any where in the cooling system open them up while you fill it to let any air to excape If not just fill radiator untill your sure you can't get any more in it before you start it.

follow top radiator hose from radiator to engine wear hose ends, it will be clamped to whats called the gooseneck, thermostat is under that. you will have to drain coolant, not all, maybe 1 half gal. before you remove it. 2 bolts new gasget new thermostat, just remember spring on new thermostat goes in engine.
