Hi, you definitely have a problem with the throttle body, try cleaning your throttle body or maybe you have a vacuum leak..

I have a 1998 firebird that trys to die when you stop, then reves the engine by it's self.

Reves by it's self , that's the PCM/ECM - engine computer controlling the IAC - idle air control valve . Try some injector cleaner ,fuel system cleaner !

Why does my Engine reves up when I shift?

Is the check engine light on?
does it do it when its cold, warm or all the time?
start by getting the transmission fluid and filter changed/check for debris but ussually this is the first sign you'll need a transmission rebuilt/replaced. But keep in mind I havent seen the vehicle
