Chevy 1994 S10 Blazer Starting Problems

Just replaced fuel pump and filter and my Blazer still doesn't want to start. I have spark and now I have fuel I just need a little help on where to look next. It either turns over then quickly dies or never turns over, just "tries" to. I have done a tune up within the last 6 months.

    Brand new battery..

Litlle more detail this time on what is going on with my Blazer, any ideas/help is appreciated we need our second car. Hate getting the kids up at 5am.

Here is the story. About a year ago it wouldn't restart after you shut it off, ie: going into a store then come out, didn't start. After it sat for a few hours it would start. We figured fuel filter was getting clogged so we changed it. Six months ago we did a tune up and oil change. Two months ago same problem started. We put on a new battery and with a shot of starting fluid it started right up. We determined that we were getting spark and checked the fuel pump relay and now have replaced the fuel pump. It still doesn't start. It tries to turn over, but doesn't.

For some reason it still isn't getting fuel. Spark plugs were dry after I tried to start it. We will know what the fuel pressure is tomorrow when we get the gauge to check it.

  • Shawnia Bennett Aug 26, 2008

    We have spark, no fuel

  • Shawnia Bennett Aug 26, 2008

It is the 4.3L vortec. After we found out the plugs were dry we gave it a shot of starting fluid and it started and ran for about 30 sec., now it won't start again.

  • Shawnia Bennett Aug 26, 2008

Checked the fuel pressure and it is only at 17psi with the key in the on or off postion and it doesn't change when we try to start it.

You need to scan car computer with a card reader, then you start troubleshooting from there.

It indicates the problem of bad ignition switch.

Check all of the battery terminals and cables and check the wires on the starter/selonoid, start from the battery and follow the cable out and check all conections , clean and tighten them and if it still does it the starter/selonoid is bad and needs replacement...

pls do rate the solution

thanks.

It would help us to diagnose the problem if we knew which engine you had in this beast. Another clarification we need is what do you mean by turn over, is the stater working properly or does it fail to turn the motor over.

Check for spark at the plugs use a timing light while cranking engine.

If no spark, check coil. Remove coil wire from distributor cap, and place near metal object that's grounded to engine.
If you have spark, then the igintion coil module is bad.

Check the crank shaft sensor. This sensor tells the engine exactly when to fire, if it's fault, you will have fire, just no at the correct time. So, you can crank on it all day, and she'll never start.

Most likely going to be with the fuel pump relay, or the fuel pump itself. One other thing you might check is the fuel kill, if this model has the fuel kill safety feature. Occasionally they will cause this problem.

The pressure on these should be around 65psi, so you definitely have a fuel pump problem. Check the pump, pump relay, and fuel filter.

My 1993 chevy s10 blazer 4.3 has trouble starting in the morning, i live in fl so its not cold, i replaced the pump and plugs still hard to start and acts like its flooded

Your truck requires 60psi or more of fuel pressure to start.
Have you had the pressure checked before and after replacing the pump, and did you replace the fuel filter too ?
Could also be a fuel pressure regulator issue.

2000 chevy s10 blazer cranks but won't start????

Check for gas or spark problem on the engine. Check that starting fluid does start the car for a few seconds before dying, indicating a fuel delivery problem, like a fuel pump or circuit to it.

If the car won't start with starting fluid sprayed into the intake, then the ignition system may be at fault, or engine timing.

1994 S10 Blazer Tahoe starting problems

Well, obviously someone didn't tell you the truth because spraying into intake doesn't make the vehicle turn over any better. You have ignition or fuel delivery problem. Start by taking fuel line off at intake and crank engine a couple times catching any gas in a cup or something. If none, then trace fuel line back and under vehicle til you find filter. Should be under driverside midway back on inside of frame. Change this and try test again. If no gas, see if fuel pump is on motor(mechanical pump). Change this and test again. If not on motor then it's in gas tank(electric pump). Most cases the tank has to be lowered to take out pump, careful not to drop, dent or make sparks. Some came with access through the floor so check that first. Normally you can hear an electric pump come on when you turn the key. Good Luck

Just some quick checks: I'll assume you haven't received any error codes.
fuel filter, bad gas(water in the gas), indication of failing fuel pump(the 4.3 is notorious for its pump problems),dirty spark plugs, clogged fuel injectors, failed fuel injectors, MAF malfuntion(mass airflow sensor), I could go on...
