1982 Honda Prelude. Won't hold idle when stopping. Dies. Have you found the answer to this problem? FYI- the carburator is fine. Does not need to be rebuilt.

my buddy has a 89 prelude that does the same thing.

Ok I have a 89 prelude and it idled good until recently now it wants to die when I let of gas but runs good going down the road.
I was told it is the idle control sensor, but no such part , however there is a idle air control motor which could be the problem so I am going to try that.
I agree tyhat it isnt the carberuetor

i have a 87 prelude that just started to do the same thing! but not all the time, maybe every other stop light, checked it out as far as i could without the equipment, ie; vacuum and pressure pump! the EGR AND LOW IDLE VALVES werent getting any vacuum. probably going to have to take it in. unless someone here gets a fix to me soon!!

Try the control for the egr valve and check the egr valve if open
car will not idle from a 85 civic owner that did just a egr replacement and it was fixed ( ebay new egr valve was only 22.00)
parts store 69.00

The car runs and then just quits. after about 20 mins it will start up again but it keeps dying and wont stay running. i think it may be a sensor of some sort.

sounds like a fuel problem, filter, stops up ,sets a little presure goes down lets fuel go to filter on /on try new fuel filter...

1990 prelude si wont start battery is good plugs are good d-cap is good it overheated and died i managed to get it started and now it wont start could it be my thermostat is bad?

If you overheated it, and then drove it long enough that the engine died, Your engine hay have a bad head gasket, or the engine is now bad. .fill up the coolant in the radiator (water) leave the cap off, and try to crank the engine up, if it tries to push the water out, the engine is bad. A bad thermostat isnt going to keep it from running, although it may be bad also.

93 prelude starting problems

I had a similar problem on my 93 Prelude. Apparently the original ignition module has a high plastic content. This doesnt do well with heat obviously. I had the ignition replaced with an aftemarket part that did not use as much plastic in its pieces and it fixed the problem.
