One problem you might have (I think there are several, perhaps not related) is that the overheating is being caused by a failed head gasket.
When they fail, there are symptoms you can check for:

- Oil discolored, possibly looking more like hand lotion instead of oil.
- Oil in the coolant; it should not have any traces of oil in it which will also cause discoloration.
- Excessive and obviously wet (=new) oil or water deposits around the union of cylinder head (it is under the valve cover) and the block (the major portion of the engine below the head.)
- Rusty spark plugs - this may occur in only one instance or could show up on several, depending on the severity of the gasket failure.

The ABS light is a warning that youir braking performance is vastly reduced and wheel lockup can occur.
The old habit of 'pumping' the brakes on slick surfaces is needed until the problem is solved to avoid lockup and loss of control.

I'm sorry I cannot offer help on the other problems but the overheating needs to be attended to since this can lead to further severe damage.

Automatic transmission of toyota sera i couldn't move reverse it gets stuck rest is fine

It may be due to:
- Maladjustment of the gear lever cable or selector assembly.
- Valve body assembly.
- Planetary gear unit.
- Reverse clutch.

Use a scan tool or Techstream and calibrate deceleration sensor. While performing the calibration follow on screen instructions. You can do the calibration by clicking Engine and ECT> Utility> Reset Memory> After that click "deceleration 0 point calibration" while you do that make sure that your car IGN switch is "ON", hand brake pulled and your gear shift is on "P" or Neutral. At last perform the CVT Oil Calibration.
Some automatic transmission DTCs cause the MIL to come on. If the MIL is on and no DTCs are indicated in the EFI system, select the A/T system, and check for automatic transmission DTCs.
If the problem persists, check the Yaw rate sensor for its position or replace the Brake Actuator Skid control ECU (ABS actuator assembly).

1. I have a Toyota AE91 Sprinter SE 1989 5E engine. Even driving at 80kph it DOES NOT engage the overdrive. What could be the problem. 2. In the morning it gets hard start, but starts OK for the rest...

The starting issue could be due to a bad battery. Hard starting in the morning is usually associated with the cold. Low temperatures, create hard starting/cranking for your battery.
You will see a CCA rating on your battery, in my 4wd it is 600CCA that means it has 600 Cold Cranking Amps. That means it is the amount of current my battery can provide at O deg F. Car manufacturers only use cheap standard duty batteries.

If it is a 4 speed automatic with a power/ecconomy button it won't engage overdrive. You put it in ecconomy for normal driving and power for towing.

Car strugles to shift once its warm.

If the engine revs high and the vehicle barely seems to pull, then you are likely to need a transmission rebuild. Ensure that the trans is full of fluid. If the considerably low it could be the cause. If the engine lugs when it "struggles" to move then it could be an engine performance issue.

ASC & ABS light on cluster

Check to see if your brake pads and rotors are in good condition. Or if you have replaced the pads yourself and have not reset the wheel sensors this would cause the ABS Antilock Brake System light and the ASC Automatic Stability Control light to stay on as the ASC uses the ABS brakes with computer assistance to control the traction of the car if not fixed it can effect your rev limiter slowing performance

Sounds like you have a timing belt issue, it may be off one tooth. This would be expected by the way you describe your symptoms

VW Bora, The ABS alarm is on and the brake alarm is flashing,Brakes are working OK But not the ABS.Is it possible to reset the ABS unit or disable the alarm. Thanks Mike.

My EPC light magically appeared at 20K miles and the car squeaks like mad whenever it's moving. I don't notice any performance loss (engine-wise) in the car when the EPC light comes on but it won't let me switch gears from Park to R or D. I have an appointment next Friday to have it looked at. It's an automatic 2002 New BORA with JUST over 20K miles.
