Its not the crank sensor... i have the same problem in my 92 3.9L dakota. ill be driving and it will just shut off with no steering, and the brakes are hard as hell to push down... th only thing i have replaced in the ignition is the computer. i have replaced everything else. even the crank sensor. so dont waste your money and thanks for telling me its not the computer either lol. if you find a solution please tell me thank you.

95 dakota, randomly dies, then sometimes wont start. Sometimes might start right after it dies. Dies while driving in gear going down the road. It has spark, its a v8 5.2?

This is a common issue with Dakotas of all engine sizes. I have a 99 Dakota and it did the same thing. The usual culprit is the crankshaft position sensor. They are relatively cheap (as far as parts go), and are easy to replace. I would try that first. The interesting thing about them failing is that they rarely set an Engine Failure Code.

01 dakota 4.7 after few hours it takes couple seconds longer to crank bout 6sec. After that it starts fine. Now its a 3 second delay and a wierd idle then goes away. At a stop sometimes drops 500rpm?

Check engine light on? If so go to any major auto part store and ask them to hookup computer for diagnostics codes. This is a free service. Sounds like a sensor gone bad.

What would make my tach jump up and down real fast while its idleing its a 93 dodge dakota 3.9

You have already changed the components that would be my key suspects. Sounds like your best bet is a shop with an analyzer. Some small shops can do that for you for a lot less than the big dealers.

Good luck.

this sounds like a bad connection or a bad VSS sensor... either way it needs replacement/repair.. if the tach sends 0 info to the ECM the car will quit or run in an open loop causing it to run real poor... have someone like Auto Zone??? scan it for free and give you the computer code results.... this will help you unravel the mystery of the stalling.

Engine quits after 3 or 4 miles of driving

I would think either a bad coil, or ignition module,or fuel pump. Sometimes the big relays for these system can cause this symptom so rotate the important ones in the engine compartment. Also if yours has an ASD relay this is your main power one.
