If theres no oil in the transmission woold that cause the problem? Trans leaks. Don't know how or where to put oil in.

  • If the car runs but won't move then you have a couple possibilities. Transmission or a CV joint isseue.
  • Here is the test.
  • If you put the vehicle in drive and the speedometer works as if you are actually driving the the CV joint is the problem.
  • The next test is the push test. If you can push the car while in gear the the issue is the transmission because it should stay put.
  • Check the transmission fluid and if it is at the level it should be the go off of the test suggestions I listed. If it is the transmission you need to take it to a transmission shop. If it is a CV joint you may be able to address this at home with proper knowledge and tools. One you figure out what it it then stop trying to drive it until the repair is complete.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You could have a loose pin that connects the shifting links to the transmission. It could be the links itself. It the links and pins are intact, you need to check the slave cylinder and your clutch master. The clutch may be moving but not engaging the transmission. You need to check the pressure plate just in case also. If these parts all check out, the transmission probably will need taken out and looked at. I really don't know the specific specs on this vehicle, but the clutch and transmission systems are all similar in basic designs. This is assuming that it is a manual transmission that is.

Don, the transmission uses transmission fluid, not oil. You can add it where your transmission dipstick is. If it doesn't have the correct fluid, it may have caused damage.

My 2003 Kia Sedona won't start. The Alternator and battery have been recently replaced. The interior lights come on. It won't jump start. Any ideas?

Alternator doesn't have anything to do with starting the car, it supplies power to the system once the engine runs. Does your starter crank the engine? Do you get spark? Is fuel pressure correct?

97 cavalier starts and runs ok from a cold start after a few minutes of warm up it starts to run rough and miss. If i try to drive it it will start out ok but won't shift automaticly but shifts fine m

Sounds like possibly more than on problem, crankshaft position sensor, or ignition module likely on starting prob which maybe affecting shifting due to hard code in ecm, or shift prob could be shift solenoid in valve body of transmission. Both parts readily available from local parts store

2002 Kia Optima runs great, transmission has started acting irradcally. it will shift and pull in gear for a short time after starting, but after a few minutes it fails to move the car. I've changed...

Keep driving it like that & it won't work at all

When ever you even think you have a transmission
issue, you immediately stop using the vehicle or you
end up rebuilding the trans, your call, your money & lots of it

Ask yourself ---Why would changing the fluid do anything?

Old oil out / New oil in ?

You change trans fluid because it breaks down from the heat
That is it's job,to remove heat or your trans fails

Trans & Power Steering get changed every 3 years & not
over 30,000 miles ever on ALL Vehicles
