Hi,

If the client overhauled the engine, removed the crankshaft and the balance shaft with the balance shaft chain, and did not mark it before hand, no way that I know he can align/time it.

To my knowledge, the best possible solution is to buy an aftermarket or original chain which then has markings and illustrations/diagrams for the timing as well as instruction set.

Even the service manual is vague on this since the factory installed chain has no markings (which perhaps may be the reason his timing is now off).

Good luck.

2004 mitsi colt engine vibration vibrates all the time now have checked mounts seem to be ok.

engine vibrations can be from
misfiring
valve timing not correct
ignition timing not correct
balance shaft out of time
harmonic balancer failed
run the fault codes to check valve variation operation is correct and other problem sensors
if it has a chain , it could be a worn chain problem
if it has a engine driven fan then it could be a water pump bearing or fan hub problem

balance on tail shaft was what? it sounds like the drive shaft and universal joints yokes were not scribe marked to be put in the same place causing the drive shaft to be unbalanced there are weights on the drive shaft EX. little metal bars welded to it try taking it out and rotating the shaft a bolt hole at a time or a universal joint cap + at a time to see if it helps also the universal joint could not be seated properly causing intense vibration at take off please respond and be much more specific so I can possibly help you figure it out with out actually seeing the truck LATER MAN!

what type of vibration are you getting will it do it sitting still or do you have to be moving you could have tire out of balance, brake rotors with a lot of run-out ,if it does it sitting still you could have a balance shaft problem, has timing belt been changed lately this car may have a balance shaft belt and i have seen them install ouy of time and will cause a bad vibration any time engine is running hope this helps may want to repost with more information

There are Two Balance Shafts on the 2.4. Did your mechanic also change the balance shaft belt when he changed the timing belt? If he didn't, you'll want to do that. Since you mentioned the old belt was missing teeth, those loose teeth flying around could have damaged the crank position sensor and sensor blade (tone wheel). Also, the front balance shaft (on the side of the engine nearest the radiator), has THREE different positions when the timing mark is lined up - here's the glitch - ONLY ONE of them is the correct one - this is probably where your vibration is.

Rattling only when accelerating

the Timing Belt could be a tooth or 2 off or the distributor could be off in angle, you probably will have to have the timing set with a timing light, that will cause pinging and lack of power. most times its juts needing the timing set correctly, it could be just a few degrees out.

1985 Porsche 944 vibration in engine

It is a common problem for the seals in the oil cooler to leak and allow water into the oil. I'd check this first, there should be a procedure online somewhere. Try googling "clarks garage"
