Question about 1994 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Where to buy inexpensive

Hi... our 94 camry decided not to start a few days ago... good battery and gas reaching the engine (cause i can smell it after a few tries to start it). the mechanic we got said it is an ignition control module problem, does that sound right? if so, do you have recommendations on where to get the part inexpensively (not necessary cheap, but inexpensive)?
your help is much appreciated

My v6 94 Camry is sputtering.

Poor quality fuel could certainly be the cause of this. Adulterated fuel can have a variety of substances in it, from water to diesel.
If it only started to do this after you last filled with the suspect fuel, have it drained before it causes damage.
Camrys will often leak oil onto the exhaust, from several spots, and that causes a hot smell. I think it may be unrelated to the sputtering.

I suggest taking the battery out and have it tested first. the heat can kill the charge on a battery even though it is only a few tears old. if the battery test good then have the alternator checked.the alternator on your car is on the right side of the car near the rear of the engine compartment.

This is an idea not a for sure. Bad or worn valves can cause what you describe. Had something similar happen to an 2004 Toyota. Due to bad lubrication, crazy huh?

Hi.
Check the heavy duty cables from the battery to the starter motor and solenoid and also the battery earthing (grounding?) - there terminals could be corroded / burned.

Hope this helps you a bit. If it does, a "Fixya" rating would be much appreciated. If it doesn't
help you, I'd be grateful if you didn't bother with a rating at all. Just come back and tell me what you found. Cheers, D

That sounds very right. The most inexpensive place to get a new replacement is at your local auto parts store. It is not a difficult procedure. Good luck.
