my problem is similar but not exactly the same. My vehicle is a 2006 Chevy HHR, and after my car was jumpstarted the power steering stopped working. So now i am fighting my steering wheel to make any sort of torn, major or minor.

I used my 06 Malibu Maxx to jumpstart another vehicle and the power steering won't work now.  I was going to add fluid but can't find a place to add it.  I read online that it may be an electric motor that works it instead of hydraulics??  What do I do?

Lost power steering, car died, changed battery, and barley made it home. The battery has power, but when you turn the key on the dome light and other lights, radio, windows, etc don't work.

Sounds like the vehicle is not charging you may need a new alternator get the car going with jump leads again and test the voltage at the battery terminals with a DC volt meter expect 13.5-14.5 if you get less than 13.5 your alternator is bad or wiring fault also check the alternator belt is tight.

My Pontiac torrent 07 battery died wouldn't take a jump so got new one started right up but now it's saying service stability track, check engine light and power steering is not working

When you replace the battery in those vehicles you have to take them to the dealership and have the computer reprogrammed for the new hardware. That's how 99% of the 2006 and up vehicles are.

After attempting to jump start my Chevy hhr it would not jump start.after installing a new battery, the car started, but the power steering no longer worked. How do I repair it?

Check the fuse for the electric steering. If the fuse is good the steering module may have lost its settings when the battery was disconnected. May need to have it reprogrammed..

I have a 06 saturn ion, automatic, i left my lights on, my battery died so i got a jump start, now the check engin light is on, the power steering indicator is on, the speedometer doesnt work and when

most of the time people unknowingly jump start the vehicle and blow the steering fuse in the engine compartment-this is a very common problem that I have seen at least 2x a week. The check engine light is probably related to a battery voltage low code or an electronic steering code. Check your owners manual for the location of the fuse and just replace it.

After jumping another care properly the power steering sensor and the airbag sensor light came on the dash display, the power steering went out and the heater does'nt blow as hot heat, Hopefully this is...

Check your underhood fuseblock fuses.chances are the large 60 amp fuse for the power steering blew out.In the future I would stay away from jump starting and use a booster pack as these vehicles do not like voltage spikes.I have seen it cause module problems.

2007 S40 WONT START ''POWER STEERING FAILURE'' CAME ON

The power steering is actually ELECTRIC steering on this car Most common and basically only failure is 2 30 amp fuses in under hood fuse block Only other thing is mechanical and would set a trouble code and sat power steering on your dash. FYI. Jump Starting your car from the +- Terminals found near the FUSE box under the hood, will Blow the Fuses for the Power Steering. Always Jump start your car from the Battery Terminals in the Trunk

Locate the power steering pump and hoses on your vehicle. The power steering pump is located at the front of your engine, near the top of the motor. It will have a black fill cap on it that is labeled "power steering fluid."
1)Clean the outside of the pressurized power steering pump hoses and the power steering pump with clean shop rags to remove any oil deposits. Check the exterior of the lines to identify any signs of steering fluid leakage.
2)Start the motor and turn your steering wheel back and forth several times to cause the pressure in the steering pump to build up. Turn the engine off and recheck the hoses for fluid leaks. Examine the power steering pump for any signs of cracks or damage. If your power steering pump is damaged you need to replace it with a new pump by removing the bolts that hold the pump onto the bracket, taking the pump belt off the pulley and disconnecting the hoses. Replace the power steering pump by reattaching the hoses with a screw clamp and attaching the pump to the bracket. Place the belt around the pump pulley and apply pressure by pulling back on the pump and tightening the belt by using a socket wrench to tighten the bolt on the bracket. You can find a power steering pump for your vehicle at your local automotive.
3)Check the fittings and clamps for any signs of wear or leakage and tighten any loose clamps with a screwdriver. Inspect the hose leading from the power steering pump back into the firewall that leads to the steering wheel. If you find that a leak has developed in the power steering hose that leads to the steering column, consult a mechanic or take your vehicle to a local service center and have an inspection done.
4)Remove damaged power steering hoses by taking the cap off of the power steering pump and then unscrewing the clamp on the hose. Recover draining power steering fluid by placing a clean container below the hose or power steering pump when you loosen the hoses and allow the fluid to drain into the container.
5)Repair power steering hoses where the damaged area is close to the end of the hose by trimming off the affected area with a utility or sharp knife and reattaching the hose with a screw clamp by tightening the clamp with a screwdriver. For damage that is in the middle of the hose or near a section that can't be repaired, replace the hose with a power steering hose that can be purchased from any automotive supply store in your area or online at an automotive supply website, such as the ones listed below in the resources section, and connect the new hose to the power steering pump with a screw clamp.
6)Fill the power steering pump to the proper level with power steering fluid and replace the cap. Start the vehicle motor to test the system. Once you have verified that the power steering system is working properly, shut off the engine.
This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

06 HHR - battery died, recharged..now no power steering???

In the under hood fuse block you have to locate the power steering fuse and replace the blown fuse. The next time you jump the vehicle make sure and do not hook up the positive cable to the terminal under the fuse block.Use the one under the red cap by the fuse block. Also make sure the radio and accessories are all turned off before jumping the vehicle.Watch out for the cooling fans cause they could come on at anytime.Hope this helps.Good luck.

I have a 2008 Toyota Rav 4 with 27,000 miles on it. I went to start my car at the store and it wouldn't start. AAA jump-started it; I drove it for 30 minutes and parked it in the driveway, turned it off,...

You most likely have a bad battery since the car starts with a jump. As for the steering problem you have electronic power steering. Most newer cars have this nowadays. Battery problems can cause this problem also.
