It is a 5 speed manual gearbox in a 2.5 litre Turbo diesel.
right thats better ,now the 5th gear is on the end of the gearbox behind a metal cover as a sort of extension ,well this gear if you look carefully has syncro rings or baulk rings which are like a line of thin teeth till you take the gear apart then you will see that these baulk rings are like rings with a cone which acts as a break for the gear to slide over ,well where the gear slides over a spring loaded locks and these are worn ,when changing gear on any manual box always give time for the syncros to work as some drivers like to change gear too quick like stirling moss rally driver style and this is what damages the gearbox
yes them ones as unless the gear change linkage is bent or someone fitted a spring to stop the gear change rattling then their is nothing else i can think of ,except the selector rods in the gearbox itself ,as between these rods in the casing is ball bearing loaded springs that hold the selector fork rods in place when you put the box in a gear ,but i have had the spring on the gearchange before now that shouldnt have been their and this pulled the gearchange mechanism over to stop a rattle and pulled it out of reverse a renault express van as i seem to remember

G'day
Do you mean the three locks are worn in the reverse/5th gear synchronizer clutch hub? or the springs itself? One on either side of synchronizer gear.
I have pulled down the box and these don't seem to be worn either.
Thats is why this has got me stumped.
Any ideas??
Thanks for your time and great advice. I will replace the three gear slides and the two springs and do the bearings while it is apart and then see what happens. It cannot be anything else. Again thanks for your advice. I do really thankyou for your time.
