Question about 1991 Volvo 240
Three months ago I bought a used '91 Volvo 240. Been having troubles with it off and on, beginning with needing a new starter. Turns out that the previous owner hadn't really maintained it the way it was supposed to be.
I finally got it running properly and without problems for about two weeks straight. Over the weekend, I was getting low on gas and so I bought a full tank. Three hours later, driving the car around town again, the engine started shaking violently, especially while at an idle. Trying to get home, I was going up hills and it seemed like there was little to no response from the gas pedal - I had it all the way to the floor and it felt like I was trying to coast up the hill. Finally I came to a red light and it shook even more violently and finally quit. After about 20 minutes of not even being able to start it, I finally got it going and essentially coasted home.
After that, I replaced the fuel filter (another part that was an original from 1991...) and found that the battery was dead again. However, even with a fully charged battery, the car wouldn't do anything more than crank up and die almost immediately.
I have now had the car towed to a mechanic and he just called me saying that the problem is cylinder 2 - it has about 65-70 pounds less pressure than the other cylinders. He's telling me that I'm going to need a new cylinder ($1100-1400) or a new motor (probably the same amount).
Has anyone else had troubles like this? Is it really worth spending all this money to fix this problem?
Try check sock on pump in tank mine cost 1700.00 for parts it did not need all it needed was the sock

If the top of the eng is sludge up you can get a 1995 940 motor and drop it in,if it clean inside the vale cover the why is comp low /the car is easy to pull the came and see if the valve spring is broken if ok /pull the head, its easy/now tell me what the problem is/yes these are very good cars but make sure you have a volvo mechanic 100%
