you need an ignition switch. One way to figure it out is to turn the key to engage the starter, quickly........over and over, the "catch and start" will happen with no change and suddenly, its engaged. Or, keep the key in the START position, don't let up on it and hit the steering column with your fist, or the steering wheel. It may just be shorting out.
Try moving the Steering Wheel, put a little muscle into it. Some vehicles have a steering column lock that prevents the key from being turned if in the locked position
this cars have safety feature on the steering column, there is a signal emitter that works with the key of your car, that will only work with your key on your steering column and it sends a signal to your ecm so you can start your car, so if u changed that engine u must have changed the ecm that does not work with the sistem on your streering column, u need to have reprogrammed your key and signal emitter on the steering column so the signal to the ecm is the right one, u need to take ur car to a dealership so they can do the work take care, hope this helps
sort of a solution. if you can get the ignition to turn to the off position there is a pin under it you can push and pull the whole thing out and start it with a screwdriver. or you can take out one screw from behind the ignition on the little black thing and you can start it with anything. i'm not sure if that will unlock the steering column though. hope this helps
