4 wheel drive quit at some time didn't know it...drives fine only rear wheels pulling..could it be electrical ??

I hava a 1999 Grand cherokee loredo V8 with full time 4wheel drive. when the rear tires slip I am hearing a poping noise in the front end when the 4wheel drive engages. I was told by one person that it could be the chain in the transfer case slipping but I was told by a jeep salesman that this year jeep did not have a chain. Could this be the CV joints in the front axels?

sounds like it time to have the front end balljoints inspected. Only with an inspection will you get the proper results. Why guess, this is a safety issue.

Will 235/75/r15 tires look ok with a 2 or 3 inch lift?

Were you not planning on increasing the tire size after lifting it? They may look a little small with a 3" lift, its a personal preference. If it was me, I would probably go to a larger tire like 285/75R15 or even 305/75R15. Also remember if you put a bigger tire on this thing the speedometer will be off. It will say your going 55 but you may be going 60. Also bigger tires will change the overall gear ratio. It will increase gas mileage but lower the torque to the wheels.

What is the largest tires i can put on a 1999 grand cherokee

Basically, you can put any tire you want under your vehicle providing it fits under the wheel tubs. HOWEVER: remember that each time you increase tire diameter, you are likewise increasing the amount of foot lbs of energy required to get the vehicle underway from a dead start and uphill. You will also be changing the final drive ratio which will cause inaccurate speedometer operation and also affect the speed sensor (if so equipped) output to the ecm. Making a small change such as going from a 225 tire to a 235, is OK as long as you note the speed inaccuracy, to avoid getting speeding tickets, but a jump of three sizes or more could result in driveline and performance problems. Putting in "lift kits" and giant tires looks hot, but unless its done correctly it causes more grief than it's worth, unless you are in need of additional grolund clearance for a specific reason.
