SOURCE: egr valve

Though some suggest it might be cleaned with carb cleaner I think it would be best to replace this valve if it is sticking.

Sounds like the EGR sensor is still sending power to the EGR valve. I would replace the EGR sensor and that will resolve your problem. There has been a problem with some of the cars showing a error code reading of EGR valve being bad when it is really the sensor being bad

When the egr valve is bad on a 1992 honda accord wagon what happens?

If it's stuck closed, you will feel no ill effects. If it's stuck open, the car will not idle right and be hard to start. If you're getting an egr trouble code from your accord, test the egr valve to make sure it's working; use your finger to push up on the egr valve diaphragm, while the car is idling....car should shake and shut off if the egr valve is good. The one vacuum solenoid that feeds the egr valve, on that generation accord, is known to go bad and cause the egr trouble code. Check that solenoid if the egr valve tests ok.

that code means exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve closed position performance....in other words stuck closed...replace EGR valve.then it should pass will never pass otherwise....might cost @around 100 bucks but call around and check dealer some parts are cheaper at dealer. hope this helps

I have a 1995 nissan altima GXE and i replaced my IAC valve saying the trouble code i was getting from the self diagnostics was IACV?ACC valve, IAT Sensor, EGR Solenoid Valve, and Knock Sensor but it only...

Hello,
The EGR solenoid is activated by the ECM at mid range speeds so if you are testing it at a idle it will not show voltage. The ECM grounds the solenoid to turn it on which supplies vacuum the source to the EGR valve.. To test the EGR solenoid unplug it and supply power to the terminals on the solenoid with jumper wires. Just apply power momentarily and listen for the click.Don't power it on for long as it will damage the solenoid if energized for long periods. If the solenoid is working check the EGR valve by connecting a piece of vacuum hose to it and applying vacuum to it. If you put your fingers under the edge of it you can feel the diaphragm moving as it opens and closes when applying and removing the vacuum. If don't have a vacuum pump tester you can do it easily with your mouth on the hose as it doesn't take much vacuum. If the EGR is stuck remove it and try cleaning the carbon out.If you can't free it up replace the EGR valve. If you need more help here is a site which provides diagnostic help with pictures. The also have the part availible for purchase at a very low price along with many more hard to find emission related parts. www.qualityresale.net

2000 buick lesabre engine code p1404

P1404 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Closed Position Performance The egr valve is stuck possibly due to carbon buildup. It may be possible to remove the egr valve and clean it with throttle body cleaner or induction cleaner. If the pintle can not be unstuck then the valve egr will probably need replaced.

What does code p042e mean

P-042e-Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Stuck Open
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
P042E-EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION CONTROL STUCK OPEN

During regeneration of the aftertreatment Diesel Particulate Filter the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is commanded to be in the closed position. If the EGR valve is not closed then a temperature rise will occur at the EGR valve orifice. The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the orifice temperature of the EGR valve and will set the fault if the temperature is above a calibrated threshold.

Unless the wiring has been tampered with going to the egr valve, replacement of the egr valve is the most likely scenario that will repair this for you.

How to clean/check the egr valve

When the EGR VALVE is clogged or malfunctioning, it can cause irregularities in engine performance such as rough idling or valve knock, indicating that the EGR valve should be inspected.
The EGR valve works by routing a small amount of exhaust back into the combustion chamber. When the temperature in the combustion chamber is too high, nitrogen oxides are produced, which combine with elements in the atmosphere to form smog. Introducing a small amount of exhaust into the system reduces the temperature in the combustion chamber, reducing the amount of nitrogen oxides produced.

Many EGR valves are mechanical, and simply have a small valve which opens to allow exhaust into the combustion chamber and closes when it is not necessary, and to keep the air mixture optimal for combustion. Some mechanical versions will not open until there is sufficient back pressure, ensuring that the valve will not be open when the engine is idle or warming up and needs a higher concentration of oxigen for combustion. Electronic EGR valves are also available, and use electronics to regulate the valve.

If the EGR valve is stuck open, it will essentially cause a vacuum leak, leading to inefficient combustion, rough idling, hesitation, and sometimes stalling in extreme cases. This is because the car cannot combust on carbon dioxide from the tailpipe — it needs atmospheric oxygen. If the combustion chamber is flooded with exhaust from an open EGR valve, it will not function properly. To check and see if the EGR valve is stuck open, have someone idle a parked vehicle with the brake on while you examine the plunger shaft to see if it is stuck open.
If the EGR valve is stuck closed, emissions of nitrogen oxides will rise, and the car may start to knock. Spark knock happens when the fuel mixture in the combustion chamber ignites before it has been reached by the explosion in the cylinder, resulting in a disruption of the engine timing. In this instance, the engine should be warmed up and revved to see if the EGR valve will move.

In both cases, simple repairs are possible. The EGR valve can be clogged, and a simple cleaning of a mechanical EGR valve may solve the problem. In the case of an electrically controlled EGR valve or a more complex mechanical problem, replacement of the valve may be needed. The EGR valve is an expensive motor vehicle component, and care should be taken to ensure that it needs to be replaced rather than repaired. A reputable mechanic should advise you appropriately.

Failure to repair or replace the EGR valve will not lead to a life threatening condition, although it will reduce the life of your car and increase the potential emissions. Especially in areas which require smog testing, an automobile with a malfunctioning EGR valve may not pass

HERE can find one video about this subject.

Hope help with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.

Can egr cause the car not to start
