1994 Transmission won't downshift...

I have a 1994 Grand Prix SE it is automatic with a 3.1L Engine, the car is a coupe two door. The problem is that when i put it in Drive, the car goes fine, but when i come to a dead stop, it is in neutral, and just revs up... the only way to make it go again is to shift into 1, 2, or 3. After I shift into one of those gears, like 1, and then go into Drive again, it works like normal, shifting up again, but again when i come to a dead stop, it just revs up... I really have no idea what is going on, so here is a little bit of things that I have done since it started acting up.... I changed the back brake pads, and checked the transmission fluid, the transmission fluid was fine, and so the only major change was the brakes... If anyone has any idea, please respond.....

Had the trans flushed about 1 yr. ago, It started to go into neutral at stop lights. Now it takes about 10 minutes to go into gear when you start it in the morning. Once it is warmed up it works fine. The fluid is red and full. 1992 Olds, Cutlass supreme. 4 spd. Auto trans.

Same problem for me, too. I have a 1992 Olds Cutlass Supreme Convertible with the 3.1L engine. When in Overdrive and after reaching 40+ mph, the car won't downshift from 2-1. Instead, it's like the car is in nuetral. Sometimes it will kick in a few seconds later, sometimes I just shift into Nuetral, then back into OD and 1st gear is there. If I just drive in Drive mode, it's fine. I'll try the speed sensor response. Does anyone know for sure what causes this? I have the 4t60e trans.

My car did the same thing. Look on your Transmission and find the speed sensor. Take the speed sensor out. It should only require taking off one nut. Then pull it out, the speed sensor is magnetic and can often times collect metal chips on it and that makes it unable to work properly. Once you clean it your car will be able to shift down properly because the speed sensor affects when your car shifts. Try it out. Good luck.

I was wondering is there a way to put a v8 caddy motor in a 96 pontiac grand prix se 2 door coup. The motor in my grand prix is a 3100 v6

I would get another 3100 because there is noway you want to try swapping them. It won't work. A used 3100 isn't that high any more.

The drivers door won't open on my 1994 Grand Prix coupe.I've loosened the inside door panel and both the inside and outside handles are moving the lever on the lock mechanism to it's upper limit.I've tried...

Your lock mechanism has become jammed in the closed position, best have a boddy shop or GM garage fix it, they have the tools to do it without damaging the car.

The SE and LE indicate opinions on the cars. Most of the parts will interchange. When doing engine changes, the best way is to swap the ECM also.
