1996 Grand Am

I had the fuel filter changed about 2 months ago. Its sounds like it wants to turn over and start but it just won't start.

    Turns over but wont start. Acts like it is not getting fuel?

Could be the fuel pump.

    It's possible. It could also be a spark plug or wire....if it's been awhile it's a good idea to get these checked. If you can check them yourself, clean the spark plugs off and check the gaps. Also, in the dark, have someone try to start it while you look under the hood. If sparks come from the spark plug wires, they need replacing.

Its the anti theft system shutting the fuel off

    to override the antie theft turn your key to the on position and wait till the anti theft light stops flashing(10 to 15min this will take) when it stops flashing start the car...it will start

  • Thank you for your help,although I don't have access to my car to see if this resolves the problem I will post to let you know tomorrow when I try it.

I wonder if it is air bound injection system may need to be bled off from the fuel rail

1996 jeep grand Cherokee will turn over but not start. weak spark. fuel at fuel rail. replaced PCM 1 month ago. replaced crank shaft sensor 3 months ago....


See if your getting spark at the ign. coil first (passengers side on that year) if you are change the crank shaft sensor making sure you mount it as close to the engine as possible so it never gives you trouble again.

93 chrysler t&c awd changed fuel pump and filter, van ran fine again for about 2 months now won't start and don't hear the fuel pump. changed the oil pressure sending unit and still won


fuel pick-up in tank is blocked it has a sock over the end as a gross filter to keep out any big junk from getting sucked into the pump and causing damage to it. the sock can get so plugged up that no fuel will flow, causing the pump to run for a short time then with no fuel flow to cool it it trips the safety and shuts off

where did you go? if you went through really high altitudes the oxygen levels change and could have fouled your plugs. sometimes the auto makers tune the vehicles different in different geographical locations.
