Check the fuse first,if good, then motor may be gone,to check get meter and check at moonroof to see if power is going their,if it is,then motor is a goner.I would sell this car, beware.
The main alarm system box is located in the right front fender. To access it you have to remove (drill out) the rivets holding the plastic wheel well cover in place under the fender. It is common for the battery in the alarm to die (and subsequently leak) rendering the alarm inoperative. For that reason it is probably not a good idea to buy a used alarm of the same age. Note, you should be able to buy the replacement rivets in a kit from Volvo.
i presume it is electrical , have you checked the fuse if ok in the hand book will be a section saying how to open manually.do this very carefully as if roof not been opened for a while the control wires to and from motor can be corroded if you get roof slightly open spray something like WD 40 along the runners at each side leave to soak for a few mins and repeat process when roof can be wound open/shut smoothly try the motor again ,i know this is a bit labourious but beter than a blown motor or damaged mechanisn
There are actually 3 seperate places for fuses. If you need to replace for the driver or passenger 12volt, its located inside the cabin, open the door and look at the actual side of the dash, there you'll see the fuse box. If its the 04 xc90 it would be fuse #11. If its for the cargo area, its located on the drivers side also just inside the frame almost behind the brake light, # 7. Hope that helps, I ran across the same issue, just wanted to charge my phone.
