Steel brake line hook up?

Disassembled brake line hose from steel line awhile ago, without making a diagram. Driver side brake hose has 2
conection points to connect steel brake lines. one conection is at the top of the hose, the other is a 90 degree
conection. What do they get connected to?

Brake Line Replacement on 1996 Olds Ciera

If you need to replace a brake line, you're going to have to bleed the line of air once you remove the broken one. I would highly suggest having an Autozone Tech. explain how to get that accomplished (they have always been very helpful to me).

Replace right front brake line

Depends if you are talking only the flex hose near the caliper (very easy), or the hard line (fairly difficult). The flex line just requires buying a new hose & bracket clips and bolting them on. I'm guessing the steel brake line corroded somewhere near the bottom of the firewall where mine did. I found it easier to just reroute the new line across the top of the firewall just under the hood gasket. It is very difficult, if not impossible to remove the line and replace it to the factory location without disturbing the other 3 brake lines.

My suggestion is to use a bolt culler and cut the line as far down the firewall as you can from above and then as far up the driver side firewall from underneath. Run the new line from the ABS module, across the top back of the engine compartment and then down the passenger front wheel well, and wrap it around the bottom of the wheel well to the factor bracket that holds the flex line. Use metal clips with the rubber lining to screw the brake line to the firewall and make sure it can't vibrate against anything. Use rubber hose around the brake line at any location that you can't avoid contact through vibration.

There's obviously a lot more to be said about how to bend brake line, make fittings, and bleeding brakes that I won't get into here because it sounds like the main question was how to tackle this tough fix. I would seriously consider thoroughly inspecting the other brake lines and the fuel line where they come up the firewall from under the car. I found several more locations just waiting to blow like my front right line did and decided to replace all the brake lines.

Front right side is making a grinding noise while in two wheel, sounds like 4 wheel drive wont disengage all the way. took hub off everything looks ok. heard that it could be a vacuum problem. did notice...

Could either be a bad vacuum line or the TSB for the IWE solenoid.

If you have the truck running in park ( parking brake, chock wheels, necessary safety precautions ) check the vacuum on the front right IWE vacuum line. there are 2 vacuum hoses on there, 1 is the vac, the other is the vent, which routes up into the engine compartment, and is not hooked to anything.

Usually if it is the TSB, both sides will be making the grinding noise, as they are a common IWE solenoid

TSB : http://my.voyager.net/~sscully/file_tsb06_08_15.pdf

Operationally vacuum holds the IWE ( Integrated Wheel Ends ) out, and once vacuum is removed the spring engages the IWE.

Drivers side rear brake line has a hole in it near a bend just after the axle. Is there a repair kit with a flexible hose and clamps or compression fittings availabe?

The best, SAFEST, and cheapest way to fix anything that has to with your brakes is just replace the brake line.

The brake fluid you're losing doesn't only affect that brake it will affect al four of your brakes and if the leak expands you could mash the peddle one time and have absolutely no brakes at all.

Brake lines aren't that much and it shoud take you under an hour to change it.

I hope this helps you out.

Thanks for letting FixYa.com....fix ya

Brake line diagram

Brake Lines and Hoses
Double-walled steel line is used in the hydraulic lines between the brake master cylinder and the front tube connector, and between the brake master cylinder and the flexible brake hose at the rear wheels.
Double-flared brake lines provide good leak-proof connections.
When replacing hydraulic brake lines, hoses, or connectors, tighten all connections securely. After replacement, bleed the brake system; refer to Section 206-00 .
The wet appearance of the outer cover of the rubber brake hose is referred to as "sweating." This is a normal condition for neoprene rayon braid hose and is not a sign of leakage or cause for replacement of the hose.
