Did you bleed the air out of the system?
When you turn on the heater and put it on the high setting does it blow hot then cold.
If so you have air circulating in the cooling system which means an air lock.
Air in a pressurized system does not have a cooling effect so you would overheat.
Try to put your hand on the tail pipe(careful it might be hot) and see if you feel the exhaust sucking your hand back in.
It should have a steady outflow.
If that is the case you have a head gasket or another engine block problem.

Not cooling,has new impeller and thermostate

Steve, there's many causes of overheating. You say you have a new water pump and thermostat, so it's obviously not those at fault.

Just a question ... you say your car is not cooling, but is it actually overheating? A faulty temperature sender unit (it screws into the engine block, usually..) can give an incorrect reading on your gauge.

If it is overheating - steam/you can feel the excess heat - is your radiator fan kicking in? Is your car overheating as soon as you drive it? Or overheating when stuck in traffic .. and the fan isn't kicking in..?

Other things that cause overheating which spring to mind include a blocked radiator and/or a collapsed radiator hose.

Hot coolant enters your radiator via the TOP hose and cools as it goes down the radiator, then back into the engine via the bottom hose. Check both top and bottom hose after the engine has warmed - sometimes a hose can become 'flat' and blocked.

Another thing that causes overheating is a burnt head gasket/cylinder head problem.

Switch the engine on and look at your coolant bottle - a continuous 'bubbling' indicates that exhaust gases are finding their way (via a burnt head gasket) into the cooling system.

Any oil in the coolant bottle also indicates cylinder head problems. Also check the oil dipstick. If coolant (because of a defective head gasket/head) has found its way into the oil system the oil on your dipstick may appear a creamy/greyish sludge.

try this,wearing rubber gloves(cos its hot)undo the topmost hot hose clip and expell any air trapped.also use a hotwire to check
electric fan(s) if fitted.if they run it aint them.do they operate when idling and hot,if not then its the sensor.or if you have a viscous fan is that working.....when hot you will feel a resistance to turning by hand when the engine is stopped..another telltail that the thermostat is gone is,does the guage go down when you turn the fan on full heat for the interior??...cant think of anything else.....

2000 EXPEDITION OVERHEATING 4 MILE AFTER LEAVING HOME NEW RADIATOR, FLUSH, AND NEW THERMOSTAT I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS

Here are a few things to try. Check your Radiator cap pressure as a weak cap will boil over more quickly. Replace your Temperature sending unit. There may be 2, one is for the dash gauge and the other is for engine control. Unless you have other signs of overheating you may not be overheating at all, just a bad sender.

Next, the cooling fan clutch is what the fan blade is mounted on. This is checked by using a Timing light with a RPM tach made into it. The fan clutch "locks" at a variable temperature. In cold weather it slips internally. In hot weather it engages or "locks". A mechanic measures the RPM of the blade to the RPM of the engine. This tells if the fan clutch is slipping too much internally.

Before considering a new water pump try a free scan at Autozone or Oreillys. If your Catalytic converters are plugged the engine will overheat. You should have a Code for this problem in the onboard computer. About all you can try after this is to remove the Thermostat completely and see if the engine still overheats.

You will have to replace the New Thermostat again because the other engine controls will not work right without it. But without the thermostat you can test for collapsed Radiator hoses at say 2500RPM or above. Thats about all I can think of, the water pump would cost the most. The cap, sensor-sender, fan clutch, and hoses are not that expensive.

hi jasso, I would recommend checking the water pump if you see no flow in the radiator. Make sure when you fill up the cooling system, that you fill it cold, and that the vent screw in the radiator is loose. fill system until fluid comes out the vent screw. tighten the screw, start the car and have someone run at 1500rpm and check for flow.also, make sure that you have your temp setting full hot and blower on middle speed so that you don't trap air in the heater core.

Overheating

1. start the engine and leave the radiator cap open.
2. put a cardboard cover or a rug in the front of you radiator.
3. let it runs 20 minutes or more, see if it is overheated and see the water or coolant in the radiator circulated or not. If not, as soon as you have already changed water pump. thermostate and check the hoses, no leak, I think your radiator was blocked.
