Both key fobs and the trunk button inthe glove box do not open the trunk.

Where else do you have locks? A locking glove compartment often has a separate key. The main key is supposed to open the door, open the trunk and start the vehicle. The other key is a Valet Key, the key is intended for people to give to valets to park their cars or to repair shops to use. The valet key will open the car door and start the car but will prevent someone from unlocking the glove box or the trunk.

look in glove box has a button to disable it

You should be able to close all doors and use the key to lock & unlock drivers door 2 times each & it should reset all-Good Luck if I didn't see this till too late,JT

Button inside glove box (on left side) disables trunk opening...just push it again and trunk can be opened...worked for my 2007 Avalon. I must have bunped it by accident to disable the trunk and didn't realize the button existed. Toyota dealer said bring it in for $125 diagnostic but then I saw the cure in the car manual.

My avalon 2002 trunk was not opening. The problem was a little switch in the glove compartment was depressed I puched the switch back in and wala everything was just fine again. A lil black switch in the glove compartment. wish u the best.

Does the key you have open the driver door? Do you have a keyless entry key fob, does it work? you also might try removing the glove box and disconnecting the wires from the trunk button and touching them together with a paper clip or other small wire but before you do that look in your owners manual a determine which fuse is for the trunk release and check the fuse then the last would be to have GM dealer check to see if the key you have is the proper key fror your car and if it may be worn out

make sure the switch in the glove box is set to valey

sounds like a fryed switch in the trunk
it is only a pop switch in the trunk and they do break

Your Valet cancel switch is set.


Open your glovebox and you will see a pushbutton on the the left side, if memory serves. When this button is set, the power button will be disabled, but the key fob button will still work.
This is for when you Valet your car, you push the cancel button in the glovebox, lock the glovebox, then give the Valet your Valet key, which will not open the trunk or the glovebox. Voila, no Valet rummaging through your trunk :)

Often full gloveboxes will be the cause of the button getting pushed accidentally.

find someone with a TECH II scanner , in the body control module bi directional controls he could open the trunk , another option call a locksmith , another option , verify in the owners manual if you have a lever or a button in the glove box , i totally don't know on that one , or emergency you could jump #16 lt blue wire at body module to open trunk , maybe you have a second key fob ? i'm out of options ...
