Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. If it has been a long time since your last tune up, get one done. Change plugs, wires, coils, coil packs, distributor cap. Check your air filter and PCV valve as well. Make sure you do not have any vacuum leaks. Check in all places.there could be one. Check your battery connection also. If you have a check engine light on, get the codes for the light. Take it to Autozone or Advanced, only if your check engine light is on Cheryl. This light comes on when there is a problem. The staff there cam scan your computer for free and let you know why the light is on. If it is on, more then likely, the computer will know what the problem is. It could be a leaking fuel injector too. I know it is a lot but any of these can cause sputtering. Best wishes. If you need anything else, just let me know.

Try replacing the ignition module in the distributor. This is a common problem on these engines.

Check your fuel filter again. Dirt from the tank could have clogged it again.

Could be fuel or ignition. When is the last time you changed the fuel filter? I would start with a fuel pressure test.

My jimmy will start and idle just fine however when I start to drive it,it sputters and spits then stalls out. when I restart it I have to floor it to get it to start again. if I rev it to about 6-8000...

i would suggest changing the fuel filter if this does't work check the fuel pressure. and get a mechanic to check the ecu fault codes. as this could be caused by a electronic fault.

1995 Jeep grand cherokee is missing while running. When it is under a heavy load (driving fast) it runs fine. When idleing and slow driving it spits and sputters.

I have the same problem on my 95 grand cherokee laredo. Sometimes it starts out fine and after about 10 miles it starts spitting and sputtering. Then after a while it seems to clean out and run fine again for a little while. Then other times it starts out spitting and sputtering at the begining. I changed the fuel filter and that was not it. It is a 4.0L 6cyc. Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Car spits and sputters and stalls after driving a while

sounds like a fuel pump problem, with fuel pumps u can have pressure but not enough volume, try goin up a steeper hill in 2nd gear and get about 3000 rpms on the engine and see if it really drops out bad and is really gutless,if that happens without a check engine light coming on it might be yur pump and u should also replace the fuel filter at the same time, hope this helps
