If you have a 2.0 you check your water pump.. they have plastic impellors on the water pump and frequently break, I have seen many that wont heat up too much while idling with a/c off but will overheat going down the road, the problem is that where the impellor connects to the waterpump shaft cracks and works somewhat until you accelerate the engine, which causes more pressure and will make the impellor to start slipping.

Temperature gage goes up and down

The breather hose should run to the air cleaner housing or intake tube.
Check your radiator cooling fan. If it isn't working the car will run hot at slow speeds or idle then cool down after you get going faster. A quick check would be to turn the AC on and see if the fan comes on. If not try lightly tapping on the cooling fan motor with a wooden broom handle. If it comes on then you have a bad motor.
If the fan comes on with the AC then check to see if the fan comes on after the engine gets hot. If the engine temp doesn't kick it on then the temperature sensor might be bad.
If the fan is ok please post more info on your problem

Hi

It sounds like there is air in the system, also worth noteing that thermostas can be faulty at any time even when new so might be worth rechecking that, I remoe it and then place the thermostat in a pan of boiling water if you see it open easily then at least you can rule this out. also is the water temp sensor clean, or the part where it sits into the engine is that clean?

Finally the only other thing is air in the system, did you have the system bled through after the new parts where fitted? and the only other thing I can think of is the fan is starting to fail, they can overcharge at higher revs or at higher speeds so then the fan cuts out or slows down thus not creating the correct amount of cool air. you can test this with a amp meter, worth checking all connections also from and to the battery and the fan itself. It is quite common on fords this fan issue.

ohh there is one more thing, there is a heater control module that sits dierctly behind the dash board in the centre, you can see this from the engine bay again in the centre has 2 pipes one in and one out, this is for the cabin heating that feeds to the heater matrix, these alwyas fail and can cause the heated water to stop at the cabin end and return to the engine thus cauing overheating, this is rare that it would do this but it is just another possibility for you.

Hope this helps.
Regards

Dan. p.s I would check the fan first!!!

When driving i have rising water temperature

The coolant temperature should rise until the gauge indicated roughly half. if it continues to go until it reaches the red "H" shut the vehicle off and wait for the car to cool off. The most likely cause of this is the thermostat. It is a $4-$10 part and usually is easy to change. Thanks for asking!

This can happen if you have a blown head gasket...cylinder pressure enters the cooling system, driving the coolant out. To check this have a shop do a hydrocarbon test for the cooling system. Problem can also be caused by a bad cap, so check that first.

Radiator fan not working

Check your thermostat and check to see if the electric motor has power or not may be a damaged wire or a fried fan motor, you can also check the fan motor by running a power lead from your battery.good luck

Sounds like a bad thermostat. Its either stuck open or stuck closed. Get it replaced ASAP before you do damage to the engine.
