1989 honda civic randomly hard to start

MY civic will randomly not start, sometimes in the morning sometimes in the middle of the day, doesn't seem to be a pattern, I got error code 16, and switched out the main relay, but I got a 40 dollar knock off which is quite a bit smaller as opposed to the 130 dollar honda one, I was wondering if anyone has had problems with the knock offs, it seemed to be a bit better, but still gives me trouble. When its running it runs top knotch, I have also recently replaced m  disributor cap and rotor plugs and fuel pump.any advice igniton coil? wires?

when it does not want to start you need to check and see if you have spark at the spark plugs.also before you try to restart the car turn the key off and wait 30 seconds then turn the key to the run position and listen for the fuel pump relay to click off also listen for the fuel pump to run.

Is the vehicle wanting to turn over? If not at all, look at the ignition switch, sometimes the contacts wear down and intermittant problems arise, such as not starting or car will die while driving.

1991 honda civic random wont start, on the random times it wont start the yellow service engin light will come on. battery is good and the engin turns over just wont start.

I have the same problem, It seem to be a relay that doesn't engage making a clicking sound under the fuse panel near the steering wheel happens most of the time when it is hot. playing with the ignition key a few time do the trick for me. wish I had a better explanation/solution for you and myself though.

1989 volvo 760, 4 cyl turbo. our stationwagon is having a little problem starting. in the morning or the first drive of the day the car starts fine but every once in a while we drive it and go into the...

Check the connection at the starter relay. The battery cable should run to the relay and another runs from the starter relay to the starter. If the connection seems fine, the relay itself may have a crack within., preventing a starting connection. If this isn't the problem, the starter solenoid may be getting to hot and not engaging the starter bendix.

My 94 honda civic morning hard start, what is the possible problem.

The mechanic should check on the battery if low in electricity then charge .There are some cases that some times when a car is hard to start the cost of the problem is the battery . If still wont start then you'll have to choke and it will run .
