I just had this problem. If you notice some odd "clunking" when you brake as well, it's the ABS turning on. The problem is that there is a sensor ring near where the axle and wheel meet up called a "tone ring." They tend to crack on the Escapes. They cost about $7-$8 at Rock Auto (online, google for the address).
If you want to put it on yourself, it's a simple process...if you can get the bolts off the components.
Otherwise, don't let the dealer charge you the $500-$1000 they usually try to. Find a respectable mechanic, give them the replacement ring, and ask them to put it on. It should only take about a half hour at most with their tools.
Once the ring is replaced, it's smooth sailing.
Good luck!

My traction and ABS in light stays on my VSC light for high low light flash continually when this happened of my four-wheel-drive quit working

The 4 wheel drive will stop working, the computer relies on inputs to help your $X$ but as far as I know if its in $X$ the ABS will not work its programmed that way. Check the 4 wheels and make sure your sensors were not cut that usually happens and will light your abs and traction control light on dash.

Four wheel drive engages and kicks out, light comes on and stays on and then kicks out the transfer case shifter

I would suspect you have a bad wheel speed sensor or a speed sensor defective... do you have an ABS/CheckEngine/4 wheel drive light on somewhere on the vehicle display... That might help fix the problem.

Does abs shutt off four wheel drive

I suggest scanned the ABS module in order to know fault codes stored there; sometimes just need speed wheel sensor adjustemtn, but need the real fault code in there.

Abs stays on

The abs light is staying on, because one of the four (4) abs sensors are bad. There is an abs sensor hooked up behind each of the wheels near the brakes to tell the computer when to apply the right amount of brakes depending on how they are applied. Typically, you can have your auto mechanic, local dealership or local parts shop hook up the scanner on your vehicle and they could tell you exactly what is wrong with it.

Low traction light sometimes comes on.Weeks go by and it doesnot come on .Then all of a sudden low traction appears again

I have three 1997 Olds Cutlass's. They do it to! Nothing to worry about. They will do that in response to a bump, or washboard road driven over at a certain speed. The wheel speed sensor on each wheel tells the computer how fast each wheel is turning. If one wheel speed is faster than the other three, as when you hit a bump, the computer thinks it is loosing traction and flashes the light, and may or may not engage the ABS system to even up the speed on all four wheels.

Now if that light comes on, and STAYS on, that is another matter. It will only do that if a wheel speed sensor becomes faulty, and then the ABS light will override the traction light.

Drive on!!!

Low tire pressure light stays on in spite of adequate pressure in all four tires.

Your wheel bearing needs replaced! You can have the abs diag and will tell you which whell bearing is bad. Soon your traction light and abs light will come on.

Why does my abs light stay on?

Dear Madam or Sir,

this is possibly due to a faulty ABS-Wheel-Speed-Sensor. There is one mounted to each wheel, the ABS control unit compares all four signals to compute the moment to intervent. If there is one signal unplausible or missing, the control light will appear to show you that there was an error recognized and stored to the control unit´s memory.

You should see the shop to access the fault memory via diagnosis eqiupment to get to the heart of the matter.

Kind regards from Germany,

AutoDoc P. :)

ABS light on since I bought Van

Hi, if your abs light is always on, but you are not having any problems, then chances are it is just a sensor on one of the four wheels, these are easily replaced
