No spark v6 ford explorer - 1998 Ford Explorer

  • Anonymous Aug 25, 2008

Help! i have a 94 explorer sport, 224,000 miles. Wouldn't start the other week so i checked the fuel pressure at the manifold - nil, so i replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter, now i have plenty of fuel but no spark. i haven't replaced the plugs/wires in a while so i did that, still no spark. Replaced coil pack and crankshaft position sensor. Still no spark. running out of money and options any ideas?

I have the exact same problem with my 94 Explorer. It would shut down while I was driving, then very rough running unitl it reved up to 3K rpm.

Yesterday, I was traveling back to my home when the engine cut off completely, no resart at all. Fuel pressure was 36psi (within spec 35-40).The mechanic is now going over it to see if he can fix it.

I am a graduate student and do not have a lot of money for repair, or to replace the explorer.

If you have changed the spark plugs then the problem would be the starter.

I have a 96 ford explorer v6 with a pushrod motor and after we replaced the pushrods, the head gaskets, the valve cover gaskets and the fuses, the car will not idle. what could be the problem?

Have you adjusted the pushrods properly? Pushrods generally need to be adjusted after installation.

Not sure how to do this on this model, although I own a 94 Ford Explorer with the V6 4.0 Liter motor.

Basically, when a gas engine doesn't run, you check 4 things, and narrow it down from there.

1. Gas (Is gas pressure good, is gas flow strong enough?)
2. Spark (are all spark plugs firing properly? Is spark strong enough)
3. Combustion at each cylinder (timing, pushrod adjustment)
4. Air Flow (MAF/MAP sensor working? Air Filter dirty?)
