You have a messed up harmonic balancer. or puller..or a broken blade on a fan.

Toyota 4 runner, 1990. vibration

very possible
front drive shaft is the most likely as it does little work and the grease tends to dry out promoting wear
check all slip joints on both drive shafts as well as "u" joints
check engine mounts and front diff mounts as if they are broken , that will allow misalignment of the shaft angles

My 1995 Ranger began a loud vibration coming from the drive train.

Yes indeed.

You want to get the vehicle drive shaft (torque tube) checked for any loose end play... paying particular attention to the "U-joint" area.

As bad as you are describing it it sounds like you are really close to dropping your drive shaft...

DO NOT work on this yourself if you are not TOTALLY familiar with good jacks... jack stands... wheel chocks and have a level work area available... also keep in mind that while your TRUCK may be in PARK... that is only as stable as your drive-shaft.

Don't get between your truck and a hard place until you get that DRIVE-SHAFT fixed...

Another hot tip... if you are going to the trouble of removing the drive shaft... replacing both "U-joints" would save money and time in the long run.

Be safe... work safe!

UN-Edited response via comment line:
Oh yes indeed.

It appears that the Ranger can come in many different configurations... but the rules of home trouble shooting are to go after the cheap and obvious probabilities FIRST, (loose lug nuts) then on to the rear-end... CV-joints (if you have them)... wheel bearings... finally back up into the transmission.

Seriously... look that drive-shaft over:

Have an assistant hold one wheel while you move your rear wheel... while you are watching the drive-line... the offending u-joint should reveal itself by showing some free-play.

These should be very tight...

Perhaps then when you look more closely you will see the HORRIBLE (chocolate) brown color of oxidized iron... ALWAYS an imminent sign of DANGER anywhere on your vehicle.

The u-joints can be pretty bad... and the vehicle still run... but once that drive-shaft drops your parts costs will escalate vigorously (assuming everybody survives (my drive-shaft didn't... but mine did NOT warn me (silent failure)).

Please do have a look at the URL I posted with my first reply.

Be safe!

99 ford ranger when turning have a vibration in steering wheel rebuilt front end and still does it brand new tires so it anit that drives fine just when turning has a vibration

Eliminating steering linkages and tires as a possibility, the only things remaining to check are WHEEL BEARINGS (likely culprit on Ford trucks), brake rotors (cheap just to buy new ones and replace while servicing or replacing the wheel bearings), and loose or worn shock absorbers.

I have a 2003 ford f150 super crew with the 5.4

to have a vibration at idle indicates that it is in the engine area. Check that the harmonic balancer is not failing, viscous fan hub is operational , fan blades are intact, water pump bearings and other bearings are ok. If it is an auto transmission check the flex plate for cracks.

Remember vibrations can also come from engine problem such as random misfires from loose HT leads, water -dirt and low fuel pressures causing injector misfires
an example of this is the old slant 6 valiant (Chrysler) where a plug was weak and misfiring at load under high rpm's and this caused the motor to rock in the engine mounts and indicated as a vibration.

1990 toyota celica gts 2200 motor vibration when idled up

You may want to check your motor mounts. If the mounts are broken or just too old they will cause the engine to have excessive vibration your notice also when shifting to drive or reverse it will feel like the vehicle jumps. replacing the mounts will help if they are damaged or may be that the vehicle needs a tune up.

Severe vibration and knocking sound!

sounds more like a ujoint or a center support for the drive shaft. also check and make sure that the flywheel bolts have not come loose. also check the harmonic balancer and make sure it is not seperating
